Had my UMX on the 23rd. Many lymph nodes removed. I plan to fly to Cuba on the 7th of Jan. Worried about lymphedema as I have heard flying can bring it on.

I do not want to cancel this trip as I really feel my Boyfriend and I need the time to reconnect. Of course I do not want to injure myself as well. My Dr. doesn't seem to have a problem with this trip.

Any advise?

Going to phone my family Dr today and try to get some advice from her as well.

Thanks

Check out the National Lymphedema network guidelines for air travel--you're at risk and could consider a compression sleeve and gauntlet--but it needs to be well fitting.

    http://www.lymphnet.org/lymphedemaFAQs/positionPapers.htm

It's on the page, check it out and discuss it with your doctor. If you don't chose to get compression garments, hydrate, move around and raise your arms and pump your fists frequently.

    Have a great trip.

You really do need a compression sleeve.  You might want to see about getting a script for an antibiotic just in case you have a flare or get sick.  This way you woke have to delay treatment.  NJ

Good advice! I will get both compression sleeve and the antibiotics with me.

I fly a lot for work so I got a compression sleeve and a gauntlet (hand part).  I use it religiously and have had no problems so far.  Check out the http://lymphedivas.com site.  If your BS or PS will write a RX your insurance will pay for at least part of it usually.  An additional recommendation is don't put your sleeve on until have pass through TSA screening.  I usually go through TSA then slip in the bathroom and put it on.  The current airport screening is difficult enough without having to deal with the "swabbing" of my sleeve.  Just a thought.........
