Review of non custom gloves
Hi all,
I would like to give me impressions of noncustom gloves I recently bought from Brightlife, (I was encouraged to try many and return those that didn't work). Nancy at Brightlife was very knowledgeable (she says she used to be a LE therapist), and very helpful, measuring length of fingers etc.
http://www.brightlifedirect.com/
As background, my hand is generally small, especially my wrist. I think my palm is somewhat big relative to the length of my fingers. I've had trouble getting a glove (including custom) that gives compression without turning my fingers funky colors. (My physiatrist says that this may be because I am thin and have autonomic nervous issues secondary to brachial plexus neuropathy.) My skin seems to be a bit fragile, and I have gotten blisters from some gloves. My hands are a bit weak, and so I find it difficult to move my fingers with thick/firm fabric gloves. With those things in mind, here goes ...
Jobst Elvarex Seamless Glove 20-30mmHg. Material very rough (not as bad as custom elvarex), size 1 too small overall. size 2 had little compression of thumb and wrist.
Juzo 1101ACFS Glove w/Fingers 20-30mmHg. Inexpensive. Soft fabric like Medi 95, but fingers very short on both the small and medium (ended at PIP joint). Overall shape didn't seem anatomically right.
Juzo Expert 3021ACFS Gauntlet w/Finger Stubs. 18-21 mmHg. Fabric firmer than Juzo1101. Fingers longer, and seemed more anatomically correct and fingers considerably longer than Juzo 1101ACFS. Size 1 overall too tight, especially in thumb. Size 2 a bit generous in the wrist and fingers (no compression from PIP on), but thumb just as tight as size 1. Note, though this is said to be compression 1, it is listed as 18-21mmHg.
Juzo Helastic 3022ACFS Gauntlet with Finger Stubs 23-32mmHg. Fit and fabric generally the same as Expert 3021ACFS. Oddly, the 3022ACFS seemed to provide LESS compression than the Expert 3021ACFS.
Medi Glove S8427 3-4 w/FING. This is the Mediven noncustom. The material is rougher and not as supple as the Medi 95. The seems are more prominent. Fingers are longer than on the Medi 95 and the material is different than the rest of the glove. (Someone on the board and the description says the fingers have 50% compression.) Generally, the Mediven sizing is a bit more generous than the Medi 95. The size 2 was a bit too small, and the size 3 a bit too big. The thumb was too loose on both the size 2 and 3.
Medi 95 Glove 30-40mmHg w/Compressive Fingers. In the past, I've tried the 20-30mmHg in size 2, but it was a bit small. My fitter suggested trying the class 2 in size 3. It is too big, with little or no compression in the palm or fingers past the PIP. The fingers are shorter than the Mediven described above
Microfine Farrow. So far, this is the hands down winner. The fabric is wonderfully silky, supple and the seams very fine. The fabric is thin enough that don't have to "work" to move my hands. Supposedly, the fingers can be trimmed without the fabric fraying. Untrimmed, they go to about midway up my nails with the exception of the ring finger which ends at the nail bed. (For me this is wonderful because my finger tips don't turn as weird color when gloves end at nail.) Given the material I am not sure how they manage it, but I get good compression. Sizing - the "small" is quite big -- no compression at wrist or some of the fingers. The extra small fits me well. I pray the microfine glove is the solution to my 18 month quest for a glove ...

KS1--THANK YOU!
I also bought the new Juzo 1101--and the fingers are stubs, IMO and I don't like the fabric.
I have custom Juzo helastic, 3021--and wanted to try non-custom: I also found size 1 too small, and size 2 a bit too big
I wear medi 95 and for me, the size 3 works best--size 2 felt too tight.
I once tried on a jobst off the shelf glove and hated it--no compression in the palm
I do have a Farrow glove, but haven't really tried it--got it as a sample.
Right now, with the rehab from the fracture, I'm back in hand compression, wearing the Juzo custom and the medi 95.
I completely agree with you--I did try the Juzo size 2 in the higher compression, and the compression was too much for me.
Our reviews are almost identical--I'm sending back the less expensive Juzo, and will keep the size 2 "expert" for now.

KS, I normally use Gottfried custom gloves (to assure adequate compression of my palm and keep my fingers from turning every shade of unhealthy!), but I have a Farrow that I love -- silky, fits and moves easily, and it's even pretty. Thanks for posting your research results -- comparative shopping is only possible when we communicate our own experiences!
Be well!

KS1 - I just want to add my thanks for your reviews. I love (well, you know . . .) hearing about garments from folks who have tried them up close and personal. I wear a gauntlet (Medi) for hand compression but only occassionlly. I'm thinking of trying the farrow glove - for flying etc.
BTW- Badages Plus lists a lower price on the Farrow glove than Lymphedema Products.
Thanks!

Speaking of Farrow....................has anyone been able to purchase their new longer finger glove and if so, from what supplier?
I also didn't care for the new Juzo 1101 for the same reasons - very short fingers and shape didn't seem right.
I know we're talking about non-custom gloves here, but I wish Juzo would come out with a custom glove in the same material as the Dynamic sleeve.
Love the material of the Medi 95, but in the size that the fingers fit perfectly, the wrist is too tight, so I would like this available in custom as well.

Brightlife had the longer finger Farrows when I ordered a couple of weeks ago.
http://www.brightlifedirect.com/
The small was in stock, but the extra small they had to back order. The website doesn't give an option for colors, but I believe it comes in 3 colors (beige, copper, and black). I called them to make sure that they had the longer length. Here's the URL:
