Done with chemo....on to surgery
So, I did round 8 last week and meet with my BS this week to schedule a double mast. and I've decided on no recon. I'm actually excited to move on to the next step, I can finally get this alien off of me The thought of surgery freaks me out but I'm ready and want to be as aggressive as possible. Dr says she's going to have me on a chemo pill during rads...has anyone else taken those instead of IV chemo? Then I'll be on AI's and going to have a hysterectomy...is that aggressive enough
Did I leave anything out...is there anything else I could do?

sounds like your getting the "blue plate special"!!! I did bilat with recon then chemo and rads...plus AI's...sorry I can't help with the chemo pills....good luck with your surgery...I felt pretty good about 2 1/2 weeks post surgery, but then I started chemo.....sounds like your doing it all!!

Jenny, it sounds as though you are getting "the works"!
Surgery is not that bad, the recovery was quicker than I imagined, and the pain was not bad at all. the drains are annoying, they were probably the worst part of Surgery. And for me too it was a relief to get the boob off.
Rads will be a breeze after Chemo, you are on the home stretch! Good for you.

Thanks so much for all the info girls! It's so nice to hear from people who have experienced it first hand.

Jennyboog - what kind of chemo are you getting?

@ SherriG...thanks so much, I love seeing your post! You're always so positive and it gives me hope seeing your over 5 yrs out!
@gillyone...I did 4 rounds of AC and 4 rounds of Taxotere, I'm not sure what type of chemo pills I'll be on and I wonder why my dr. is choosing those instead of IV chemo, it doesn't seem like anyone else has taken them.
I meet with my BS yesterday (2nd time). I was a little disappointed, she literally was in the room for 2 mins and I expected a lot more details. I did ask her a couple questions and she answered them but overall I left upset. I'm scheduled for the 21st and that was later than I or my dr. had planned on. I did my last round of chemo 2 wks ago so that's over a month with no chemo before surgery...not sure if that's ok or not. So, I think I'm going to call my dr. next week (she's on vacation right now). Thanks ladies, ya'll are the greatest!

During my neoadjuvant chemo I took daily pills for the Cytoxan rather than the infusion. The Adriamycin was a weekly infusion. Some of the chemos do come in pill form. The theory behind my dialy/weekly routine was that it would be easier on the SEs. Don't know if that was true or not since I had plenty.
I also tried to do carboplatin (infusion) after my rads. But the blood counts couldn't handle it so we dropped it after 5 weeks. Was supposed to do 12. Oh well. Did the best I could.
I was thrilled to get off the chemo and move on to surgery. Like you, I just wanted it out!!! Surgery, no recon, went great.
Congrats on the big milestone!

Thanks anacortes...I've had some SE as well maybe that's why my dr is choosing that route. I'll have to get a definet answer. Thanks for the info!

Jenny, I think you'll find getting through surgery much more tolerable than chemo was. I found the drains to be the hardest part, and when those were taken out I felt so much better.

Surgery is going to be on the 21st, which is later than me and my dr were planning. It's going to be over a month between chemo and surgery I hope that's not to far out. I've heard the drains are the worse, that's what everyone seems to complain about
