URRRGHHH! So cranky right now... I have to start with the positive, I continue to be cancer free, thanks be to GOD! But, let me tell you... all the maintenance drugs and procedures I need to do to keep the cancer at bay has driven me crazy. First of all, my dr has me on Zometa infusions every 6 months, based on my age and the Grade of my cancer... for some reason, the insurance carrier is the "expert" and each and every infusion I need to "appeal" the claims... As well, I have my maintenance blood draws, LE sessions, etc... so sometimes the bills get a bit confusing,... my frustration is, I was sent to collections over two bills, one for $ 12.50 copay plus coinsurance I missed, the other for a little over $ 9. This sounds petty; however it AFFECTS your credit! I am so livid right now, after all the money we have spent through the years, this is simply not right! (We are looking to refinance and my credit is dinged! SO MAD!)

I had to vent... and to top it off, I go for my Zometa infusion next week; perhaps this is why I am frustrated right now. Tamoxifen weight gain and all. Okay 2011 is my year, I SWEAR!

Thanks for letting me vent!

I am also worried about dealing with insurance through this process. I am getting a huge binder together.  I have printed out information from our policy and phone numbers.  I am planning on keeping all the bills/communications from insurance in the binder to make it easier to organize and follow up on.  I have an Aetna PPO but they are all a pain in the butt and try to get out of  paying for anything.  I am just waiting for the insurance fun to start on top of dealing with my condition.  Does anyone have any other advice on preparing to deal with these idiots during the process?

Good luck with your fight with your insurance company.  It's so unfortnate that when you are faced with a serious condition that you have to deal with trivial crap like that.

I also had those pesky nine dollar bills that I missed and were sent to collections. I wish I could get the bills up front, but until things go through insurance my docs won't guesstimate. Sometimes they have to put the paperwork through to my insurance company more than once to get payment.

It's bad enough to be inflicted with this beast without having to be stressed out about the dang bills. I know when dealing with the collection agencies as long as you pay they don't put it on your credit report.

Hi HAPPY SHEILA, so good to see your pearly whites! I am so cranky about this insurance thing... also wondering why I seem to be the only one who is an early stage survivor going through zometa infusions every 6 months!?! I think I may post a new thread about this topic as I am starting to question why I go through this!!!!

    Nancy,

Keep your binder, you will find it is a crazy train ride of EOB's (eligilbilty of benefits) you will be sorting through... you let any go through your fingers and you will find yourself in collections over the small ones!

Nicole, I completely understand your frustration.  I've delt with the same.  I had my mastectomy last Sept., and my insurance has denied payment on the $20,000 hospital bill twice.  The first time they said it was because my surgery wasn't pre-authorized.  That set panic in.   So I started calling the University medical department, and in 3 calls, couldn't find a department who would say it was their responsibility to get pre-authorization.  Finally, the assistant to my surgeon said she had notes of getting pre-authorization although it wasn't her responsibility.  Then I remembered and dug out a letter saying my surgeon was pre-authorized, so I called the insurance company.   They said, oh, your doctor was pre-authorized but not the hospital.   More calls over the days (and my stress level going sky high in worry), and found the small print on this letter I had saying the doctor and the facility were pre-authorized.  So back I go to the insurance company, and another clerk said... oh, well we just found the pre-authorization review over in another department.  Next, they sent me a letter saying it was denied again because the hospitals bills weren't sent to the correct insurance office address.  To this date, they still haven't paid the bill, and I know the hospital has since mailed the bill to the correct address.

I hate insurance companies.  They will do anything they can to not pay bills.  I'd like to see us have a system like Canada has.  I've a friend there who says they love their medical system where medical care is free (paid for through taxes.)
