Lago: Your Christmas graphic is amazing-thanks for that! Really cheered me up:) I was feeling a little sad...my husband won't be home today as planned...he's a pilot so it's unpredictable. We are hoping he'll make it home for Christmas day but he has to leave later that day. I was planning to be off today but now I'm going to work. Can't stand sitting home alone right now! Work is keeping me sane. I'm just really grateful for these final few weeks of feeling good before surgery and treatment. Hope everyone is having a happy Christmas weekend!
Question for everyone: Does anyone have a problem with migraines and if so, how have you managed it during treatment? I'm really worried about it. I've had SEVERE migraines for more than 15 years i.e. 10+ monthly. My neurologist put me on topamax 200 mg daily to reduce the frequency but I still have them and have to take a lot of imitrex just to function and work. At the time of my BC diagnosis I was told to throw away my birth control pills immediately (after taking them for about 20 years) which I did. My system is all out of whack which is probably not helping the migraines either. Anyway, I know I'm just worrying but is anyone out there managing migraines too and are they worse/better and what about any medication interaction with the topamax?
-
Sorry I can't help you with the migrain issue but I will put more graphics up. (No I did not do these. I am not that geeky).

abluedragonfly,
I don't have migraines, however, a frequent poster, CoolBreeze has bad migraines as well (and has for years), and went through chemo last year at this time. She is a wealth of knowledge and I'm sure wouldn't mind you sending her a PM to ask her about it. If not, I'm sure someone will be along shortly that will be able to help you out...
Prayers that your husband gets home for Christmas...
Your surgery and treatment are going to go fine..remember, we are all here for you...
peace and prayers,
Tori
DE COLORES!

I suffer from cluster headaches. They happen every 2-3 years and start out as one every other day for a week, then one a day then when it is in full swing, I get 4-5 a day. Then they taper off and stop. The spells are about 2-3 months long. I tried everything you can name but the only thing that can even touch the headaches is imitrex. And insurance pays for three pills a week. Right. So when they finally stop, I am 2K poorer but the headaches are gone.
Sorry I can't offer you some hope but just know you aren't alone.
-
Now that's funny! Glad you don't have time to sit around endlessly making up these graphics:) LOL I'm off to work now but I'll check in later to see if anyone can answer the migraine question. Happy Christmas eve!!!
-
abluedragonfly--is there a chance the migraines will stop once your system gets used to being off the pill? I know the pill can make migraines worse. If you continue to get them, maybe you'll still be able to take the Imitrex. If not, hopefully your onc will have something else that can help!
Enjoy your holiday!
Lago--thanks for the graphics!
-
Abluedragonfly - I had migraines but the frequency stopped when my hormones were more stable. Mine always were always around the time of my periods. This is what my DD's had too. Hope you find something that works for you.
-
I'm really hoping the hormones might have been causing some of the migraines so maybe they will now decrease-that would certainly be a silver lining in all of this! I'm not entirely convinced though because mine are so frequent and have never really been linked to my periods. I'm not so worried about using the imitrex because it's short acting and clears the system quickly so I don't imagine it would interfere with any treatment. My bigger concern is the Topamax-it works by acting on the central nervous system (it's an anti-seizure med). So I'm just wondering if anyone has continued taking Topamax during their treatment without any problem? Would love to hear some first-hand info from someone in treatment...
ToriGirl: I'll also followup with CoolBreeze as you suggested.
-
May I take this time to wish all you and yours the most wonderful of holiday seasons. I pray that 2011 will bring a year of peace and wonderful things, much laughter and love. I know how difficlut this year has been for all of us and this new year can only get better, right?
Stay well, take good care, enjoy the family & friends and get some much-needed rest, too.
All the very best to you!
Teklya

((((Hugs)))) to all....

I've also been experiencing really bad head aches lately. Trying not to blame the Tamoxifen but it is difficult not to. I've been taking it since early September of 2010. I have an email in to my doctor to see what he can prescribe.
-
Hope all my sisters had a wonderful fun filled Christmas. I had a very busy and fun Christmas but it is all very tiring. I have a busy week as I have to travel to Sudbury on Tuesday for tests and to see onco on Wednesday and then my last Taxotere tx on Thursday. So you all will have to celebrate the New Year for me! Hope everyone has a happy and safe one!
Cathy

-
yes, it is defenatly a mess here! Now that I finally got my medicaid, Im sure the dr will have me come in wed, do my bloodwork and treatment at the same time. It will be so much less traveling back and forth to the hospital now. Just 1 trip a week, and 2 times every 3 weeks.... (once for the neulasta shot every 3 weeks) then rads every day, but not for a while yet. At least the cancer center is 10 mins away. We have a good 8 inches out there so far and its still snowing. I cant wait to climb into the bed tonight with the new micro fiber sheets my boyfriends mom got us for Christmas.
-
grannydukes-don't travel and stay safe. Rads is not going anywhere and will still be there waiting for you when the weather clears up.
