This is a link with info on Newgel.  http://www.newmedical.com/faq.htm  and http://www.newmedical.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=1&Itemid=5

The beige works better then the clear strips.  Anyone know if the strips are re=useable?  Pricey!!

The newgel strips ARE reusable ... six weeks, I think.

MJB:  Thanks for the additional info on the iodine.  Sounds like I'll need to get Lugol's 2% and 7%.

MBJ - It is quite an adventure we're on - unfortunately not a fun one.  I've been using BioOil.  It moisturizes well and seems to help fade my scars.

    Janey,

Hi. Have you only tried Newgel? Do you have info to compare it to ScarAway tape?  I am curious as to which is better. Thanks.

    Whitedove:  You are welcome!

LG300:  I have the bio oil but it's messy!  Maybe I should start using this too.  I don't want to ruin all my pretty new bras with it.

Just wanted to share that I have been using the tape on my very small but obvious "dog ear" and it seems to be getting flatter!!!

    Hello Ladies!

I've been trying to read backwards about using the iodine and strips. Do you put the iodine on first then the strips over after they dry. My oldest scars (BMX) are 11 months old and newest about 3. I had the anchor incision, so my scars are from my sternum to my pit and from where my nipple was to bottom of breast. I don't have keloids, but parts of my scars are wider...maybe they are keloids? I'm pasty white and the scars are white, not red and really raised very high....Anyway...:)

What is the process? Thanks so much!

    catherine

MBJ - The Bio Oil can be messy, but I rub it in well and sometimes blot it with a tissue before putting on my bra (I'm still wearing my cotton post-exchange compression bras, so I'm not too worried about ruining them).  Maybe I'll try the strips as well.  Do they hurt?  I don't want to rip anything.

Riley:  Yes, the NewGel strips are working for that!

LG300:  I have found that the strip is working for my puffy dog ear.  The Lugols 2% & 8% worked for flattening the scars but not for color.  I like how the BioOil feels just not what it does to my clothes.  I do rub it in really well but I always seem to be in a hurry and then I have a stain.  I'm kind of like pigpen as in if I have even the hint of a possiblilty of spilling or staining something I will, lol.

IHeartU:  I found that when I used both the NewGel strips and the Lugols 8% my skin got irritated so it's either or for me.  I am rotating them.

right now the only thing PROVEN to work with scars are silicone strips.  I love the Oleeva scar shapes.  The last MUCH longer than the web site says.  The site is a little hard to navigate thru to find the individual shapes but WELL worth the effort.  Wearing the shapes keeps the skin moistened and makes massaging them easy and far more effective than massage alone.

I'm not a spokesperson for the company but my PS says I should be!

I have a question for you ladies who have had rads. Now that my skin has mostly healed from the burns, my scar is really faded out! But, my skin is still 'tan', and I'm wondering when that fades, if the scar will darken again in contrast. Has anyone experienced this? Is it too soon to get excited?

    Hi ladies,

I have been reading this thread in hopes of finding a way to improve the appearance of my scars from my diep procedure last year.  I just purchased the lugols solution but there are no instructions on the bottle.  How much is safe to use?   I have a very long scar on my abdomen and other scars on my breasts.  If I put some on all of them will it be too much?  Haven't been able to find any information about this online.  Hope someone here can help.

Patty:  I just used a Qtip and applied a little and let it air dry before dressing.  It seemed to flatten my scars quite a bit but not lightnen them.  Now I am using the NewGel scar tape to hopefully lighten them. Just a swipe of Lugols is plenty.

Does anyone know if the silicone sheets work to improve the look of scars for skin that was previously irradiated? Mine is very hard, raised and puckered.

MBJ - How is the NewGel scar tape working for you? My scars just need to be lightened and I haven't found anything that really works yet.

don23:  I recommend the NewGel scar tapes as they seem to make them lighter and flatter.  I don't think it will completely get rid of them though, as that will just take time.  That said, I do notice a difference!

Where do you get NewGel?  I googled it, but no results.

    Thanks.

I am still using the Tropyl-Active.  4.5 months and not helping with my scars.  The directions said that it could take up to 6 mos of use for older scars.  No improvement at all.

Anyone having good results with Lugol's???

I didn't seem to get any results from the TropylActive.  Now I just use body lotion as the scars aren't so bad anymore.  I stopped using the Lugol's after I quit seeing results.  They do tend to flatten, not lighten the scars.

    Thanks MBJ

All my scars have faded well except for the extended LD flap scars on my upper back where my PS took skin for my areolas.  One is raised and both are still pretty red.  Aug will be 2 yrs so they should have already faded somewhat.  When I go to see my PS in July I will ask him if a lazer would help.  I do not want them cut on anymore.  I do regret letting him take skin from that area.  Wish I had just had nips done and not areolas.  I cannot wear some of the summer clothes I would like to wear because those scars are exposed.

Linda:  So sorry you are having issues with those areas.  I am having a skin grafted areola as I thought I would get a better match with my natural side.  I am hoping he can take skin from an area that doesn't see the sun.  I have mine done on Tuesday of next week.  Have you tried the Lugols?  Mine flattened quite a bit with this and then the surgical tape did the rest.  I understand if scars are not protected from the sun, they can deepen, too, so I guess we have to use lots of sunblock in the summer.

The lugol's is my next thing to try....my scars have not been exposed to any sun.

Good luck next week with your areola...please give us a report when you can
