After the study "showing" that MLD doesn't work--I'll post it later--this is SO encouraging.

    Thank you!

kira it was my impression that the other study showed it didn't work in preventing the development on LE, not the ongoing treatment?

Cookie, you're right--it didn't work to prevent LE--which is not how it's intended to be used. There also two studies out of Canada trying to discredit MLD in the acute CDT phase--as useless and expensive, and time consuming. Lousy studies.

For what it's worth my ID Doctor says he has often wondered why there was not more MD's specialising specialty in LE.

If early pt, or a scan, or supplements can prevent or lessen severity, any major breast center should have someone to adress those concerns.

Cookie, wouldn't that be ideal? Too bad many major breast centers adopt the party line "none of our patients get LE!"

In Boston: Dana Farber/Brigham and Womens have taken the approach that LE is a reportable diagnosis=error, while Mass General has a protocol to measure all women with the perometer pre-op and at all post-op visits, with early referral to LE therapy.

Wouldn't it be nice if the second approach was the norm?

I think any surgeon who does a breast fellowship should have an obligation to be trained in LE, but that's just my vote.

There are few rehab doctors around--but in Canada, Anna Tower, the head of LE at McGill, is a family doctor who took a LE training course and became the head of LE.

There is a need--I agree with your ID doctor.

    Kira,

It's not just your vote.   You would get lots of people voting with you, if we only had a vote!

If you have LE then you already know we are more apt to get infections.

I just had a bout of cellulitus and it still hasn't completely cleared up, but it is getting better slowly. The MLD helps to get rid of some of the infection.
