    Hi Laurakay,

Thanks for your input! Would you mind sharing what Dr. Lagios said about your case?

I am leaning strongly toward radiation. My breast surgeon and medical oncologist were ambivalent, but my radiation oncologist strongly believes I should have rads. She thought I had a >20% chance of recurrence, and I did find one study (Beesie posted it somewhere) that showed a 16% recurrence rate for women with DCIS/mastectomy/margins <1mm. Those stats are higher than I am comfortable with, personally.

    Thanks!!

I was diagnosed in 2007 with DCIS, was recommended radiation by Oncologist & Surgeon. I opted for a masectomy (left side) and tramflap reconstruction- both done at the same time. All was fine until about six months after surgery my belly started to bulge in a lopsided way. I consulted my surgeon & plastic surgeon THEN was told that because the muscles from my lower abdomen were cut through to make the reconstruction, I had weaker muscles and a smaller space (abdomen) so when I gain weight- this is what happens. Also the tissue in the reconstructed breast tends to spread and the breast got bigger. I changed my bra size-one up. My plastic surgeon lipo the breast once and I am due for another soon. As for my tummy I don't know what to do- it is very uncomfortable all the time and I look four months pregnant. I was given options but I must weigh each one since I've learned that the Doctors (sadly) don't give the whole picture. Has anyone gone through this? If so how are you dealing with it? I need help. Some days I am so down because of the discomfort and bulge of my tummy.
