Question: I see that almost all postings on the Tripe Negarive forum indicate grade 3 tumors. Mine, although huge (11 cm) was a grade 1. Anyone else who is TN with a grade 1 tumor?

With this dang triple negative crappola, nothing surprises me any longer.  The grade 3, which most, but not all, triple negs are just means that it is an agressive tumor, your Grade 1 would have been the least agressive.  Mine is grade 3, yet was 1.2 cms and no nodes - so who can figure!  I had mammos every February of each year from 1986 on and skipped 2007 due to my daughter being hospitalized.  Figured no big deal as I never even had a call back, and no family history of cancer whatsoever.  So in 2006, clear mammo, skipped 2007 - had my 2008 and BINGO, I won!  I have asked all my doctors but never did get even the same answer, let alone an answer any of them were sure of, regarding just when did I get this cancer then, being it's stage 3 and aggressive?  My 2006 has was rechecked and nothing at all was seen on it.  I never felt a lump as it was 5cms below the nipple and never had a symptom, so I will always wonder just when this "aggressive" tumor began.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Linda

Hi Linda. Posting for my partner. Looks like you and she are very similar in diagnosis. In a nutshell, she was diagnosed with TN Grade 3, Stage 1 BC, 1.4cm tumor. Since that time, she's had a lumpectomy (sentinel node negative and clear 5.5cm margins). We spoke with the Rad Onc yesterday and know she will have 4-6 1/2 wks of Rad. We meet with the oncologist Monday re: the chemo. Did you do chemo? I know we'll get some answer's Monday, but was wondering about type of chemo, duration in months and how many, your reaction, etc. Thanks for any feedback you can give me. Joni

Mimex:  It is very unusual to have a Grade 1 TN -- especially with such a large tumour.  It might be worth asking that they recheck the pathology, just to be sure you can't benefit from hormonal therapy. Discuss with your onc.  That said, TN is hardly predictable, so strange things do happen.

When I was first diagnosed they said I was a grade 1 and then that changed to grade 2 when I had a second opinion.  I had a hard time understanding being a grade 1 or even a grade 2 with a TN.   I also looked at the TN board and most everyone else was a grade 3.

I am 42 and just had double mastectomy with lat flap reconstruction 6 days ago. I initially had surgical biopsies for DCIS but then they found the Invasive. Just before this surgery I found out that I was triple negative. I am Stage 1, Grade 1. Should I have Chemo? I am meeting with my Oncologist in two days...first time to see her since I found out the triple negative news.
