Melanoma from rads?

Hi all,

To those of you who have done rads, have you heard of it causing any type of skin cancer? My surgeon told me about this after my rads, and I found a small, mis-shaped dark mole thing on my radiated breast this evening. Scared!

Anyone experience this???

Marianna, I had a few moles/freckles that appeared in the radiated area of my chest right after rads. Right now, almost 1 1/2 years after, they're gone.

I hope that's what happens with you.

    All the best.

I had some little thingy on my chest biopsied after rads and it was nothing.  I would think it would take longer than you've had for a cancer to sprout up, but as with any new thing on your skin, get it checked out. I would be awfully shocked if it was anything to be concerned about.

I saw my dermatologist right after I finished rads and she told me that my radiated area would be at a higher risk of forming skin cancer.  I can't remember the name but it is NOT melanoma or basal cell.  It starts with an "s" I think.  She also said that it would be years before it happened if it did.  I also had a brown mole like thing show up in my rads area (started appearing during rads and has continued to get bigger).  The dermatologist told me what it was (again can't remember the name) and it isn't anything to worry about..  All that said, it would be best to get it checked but most likely it is nothing to worry about.

Houndmommy .. you're thinking of squamous cell skin cancer.

Marianna .. I would probably visit a dermatologist and get it checked.

I have the same thing after rads! Several dark moles showed up and appear to be getting bigger. I am planning to see a dermatologist!

Thanks for your responses, ladies. I have booked my appointment at the dermatologist now, and will feel better once she's removed it.
