Does alternative medicine kill?

I have a question about accupressure. Can this hurt you if you have had DCIS? My friend swears by it, says it opens up your mind to relaxation which helps fight any cancer that COULD remain. she does not advocate giving up on mainstream meds if you need them. Has anyone tried accupressure? I did see accupuncture in one of the posts.
Thanks again

Right on, Athena. As someone else posted.... we have one chance to do it right, so investing in every treatment within reason is the right method. I am not totally convinced that the "conventional treatments" are so good, since there are many instances of recurrance, et al, but I also wouldn't rely solely on non-traditional either. A balance and mix of the two sounds the like the most plausible, sensible route. I'd probably be saying something different if I had been diagnosed with Stage III and above cancer..... but for early stages, this is my approach.

I will tell what I saw in the Cancer Center where I work, a patient that was cleared and in remission from tongue cancer after surgery and chemo, went home and took a Juice "cures all" In less than a week his tongue was covered with cancer, he died a month later.
Another young mother she went to a country where a doctor promises cure to cancer with injections, they increased cells, unfortunately also cancer cells, she died.
I believe that one has a choice to do what one wants regarding treatments, but many make money of desperate families and patients.
Look a Dr. King widow, she was taken to Mexico for laetrile and she died .There is not enough space for all the people that died because of non proved treatments.
-
First off...there will never be a cure for cancer...theres to much money to be made in the treatement and don't give a dam what anybody thinks...
It Is Morally Reprehensible That No One Is Being Held Accountable For The Billions Of Dollars Squandered Searching For The Cure Of Cancer -
Right. Because if they came up with a cure, no one would actually pay for that.

Coretta Scott King had conventional treatments, and was dying when she went to Mexico.

Nan, I read and appreciate the article on Coretta Scott King. People need to do their homework and look into the facts before pointing their finger at alternative medicine. My goodness... the poor woman was on her death bed when she arrived at the clinic in Mexico.
Not all alternative medicine, nor conventional medicine cures cancer. I've talked to women, who choose the alternative route, who do not know the importance in taking pro-biotics. The alternative approach needs to be done under the supervision of a naturalpathic doctor. What maybe right for one person may not be right for another.
Tongue cancer and juicing? First, if the woman died a month after juicing most likely her cancer was pretty advance before juicing. I never heard of anyone dying from juicing! Drinking pure juice on your death bed is not going to save you. That is not alternative therapy. Second, if she had tongue cancer, I highly doubt she was able to drink acidity juice. I recently got over a mouth infection, tongue sores, and more and drinking anything acidity was impossible to drink... and eating sugar hurt like crazy! My mouth was in such pain that I could barely talk or eat anything.
Can you imagine me posting on the chemo threads "Does chemo kill?" That would be rude and wrong! In the same way it is wrong to do it on the alternative threads...the alternative thread is where those who do just alternative or both (conventional and alternative) find answers, encouragment and support.

Well said Barry....

Omega 3 was alternative until standard medicine accepted the fact that it reduced triglycerides and inflammation. In the past couple of years the medical community is starting to accept the importance of supplemental Vitamin D3 in preventing osteoporosis. The medical community by its conservative nature is always behind the curve when it comes to supplements and herbals. Heck, many doctors don't even recognize diet as a contributing factor for disease.
Now money is starting to be spent on research on supplements like Vitamin D3, turmeric, bromelain and aspirin and the affect of these supplements on cancer recurrence. There is a place in cancer treatment for supplements as adjuvant therapy.

Something which really grates on my nerves is that the money spent on AIDS research (yes, it's a killer and a crying shame, but doesn't affect nearly the rate that cancer does), and they've come up with something so close to a cure that they suspect it will be a non-issue in years to come. Then, scroll on over to the cancer camp, where those millions (billions?) of people sit, waiting for some news on a cure, and we hear...... crickets.
I know there is something simple about cell apoptosis, growth, our bodies, etc that is driving the cancer. I feel like perhaps the money for research goes for better drugs, and that's about it.
As for research on supplements, I am certain the BIG PHARMA companies are devising subcompanies of "alterna-care" products to capture some of that revenue stream....... don't expect them to sit on their hindlegs while there's money to be made on D3, Turmeric and the like.

i'm hoping that they cure both
maybe the cure for aids will help find the cure for cancer
i dont think they are skimping on cancer
maybe both are a virus

Marianna, you should do some research first.
"In 2007, UNAIDS estimated: 33.2 million people worldwide had AIDS that year; AIDS killed an 2.1 million people in the course of that year, including 330,000 children, and 76% of those deaths occurred in sub-Saharan Africa."
I'd say that's a bunch of people. People whose lives are valid even though they aren't white and American.

Yes, LJ, you are right. It's not that I don't care about AIDS patients, but I just don't understand why we are still using the same protocols for breast cancer that were used 50 years ago. Sure, we've got better drugs, but the treatment's the same. Just got finished with a book about Hela cells, thanks to Henrietta Lacks, and it confounds me that we are able to derive vaccines for polio and other killer diseases, but no dice for cancer. It's got to be something right in front of our eyes, but we are too close to see it!
-
P.S. I'm just upset because I got cancer and there's no cure coming for it!!!!
-
I know how you feel Marianna-cancer sucks!
