MLD should be taught to you by a therapist, it's very "operator dependent" and even the therapists have to go back and recertify every two years (at least the Vodder trained ones--and the head therapist Hildegard is very strict with them.)

So, you need a therapist to teach you, and watch you do it, and feel the pressure you use--very light, just enough to wrinkle the skin. There are different techniques: the sweep stroke, the pull-release, and stationary circles--the sweep and pull-release are the easiest, IMO.

But, if no one has taught you, you can watch Jo Ann Rovig's videos to get an idea of MLD--she teaches the sweep:

    From our site:

Personally, I found the Burt and White book helpful--it's under resources on our site

    And, from Lymph Notes

Right now, dealing with the swelling from my fracture and being out of the cast, I'm doing MLD twice a day, and getting a professional session twice a week. It's an essential tool for us.

Wonderful, so many thanks to you, Kira.  I wish my therapist had even mentioned this, I will pursue it.  This will tie me over for the holiday.  Warm regards!
