Arimidex - Coping with the SE's

j smiley, I think your fatigue is from the rads. Mine hit in a delayed fashion exactly two months afterwards and i was on tamoxifen which did not affect me at all.
Rest when you need to, it will pass off. Exercise helps but not when you are that tired.
I don't have any fatigue from arimidex whatsoever. However! It is important to check your thyroid levels or to get a test. Many women have thyroid issues change or occur after chemo/rads/hormone meds, it is more common than is known.
Also get your D levels checked. I was already taking D3, but tested so low they had to supplement me. Now I'm bouncing off the walls.
Armidex does bounce around. If your elbows hurt this week, don't pay it too much attention. Next week it'll be something else. It settles down a bit with time.
Good luck

Yes, the joint pain gets better; especially if you just keep moving (you don't have to enjoy it, just do it!). Jeanne, you might just be worn out from the whole experience. When you are in the midst of everything, you just have to keep going, and then suddenly WHAM.....it's over and I think your body has a delayed reaction to all the physical and mental stress you've been through. Be nice to yourself; give yourself some breaks, do some fun things for you, sleep in......regroup and recharge

Thanks guy!!! I feel so much better knowing I'm not crazy or a hypochondriac! I have been resting off and onsince August. I got finished w my Bachelors degree in August, so did rads and some volunteer workand have been looking for a job lately. Maybe I need to rest more........we will see.
Thanks for all your input!

OH P.S. I did have blood taken for a Vitamin D test last week but haven't gotten the results yet. And today I had blood drawn which should include a thryroid test. Thanks!
-
Wow Jeanne, I'm tired just thinking of everything you are doing!
-
We are all going to look and feel fabulous with our gluten free, oozing with Vitamin D, well toned from all the exercise, well rested, new and improved selves!!!!!!
-
Ruth - and don't forget strong bones from all those prunes .... or is that another thread!:):)
-
Absolutely, the pruned up bones & nice low blood pressure from all the dark chocolate
!
-
wait, there is chocolate involved, here? where was I?
-
2 to 3 ounces at least 70% cocoa dark chocolate every day.....has to say 70% on the wrapper....no, Hersey Kisses don't count!
-
Preferably dark chocolate works better for us as it written in a magazine but how far it is good I cant figur it out but I am regularly taking atleast one/two bite daily . i loved it.
-
I wonder if anyone makes dark-chocolate-dipped prunes??
:)
-
Sounds like a business opportunity to me. BTW Walgreens had Giardelli 70% cocoa dark chocolate squares on sale 2/$5. I stocked up....
-
Chocolate dipped prunes....we can make our fortunes!!!
-
I believe that the French and Belgians make that confection, but they soak the prunes in Armagnac first! The French also do a tarte aux pruneaux.
No reason not to eat the prunes whatever way works best. My fave is cooked in a bit of brandy and sugar, with a spot of cream on top.
On the topic of supplements, Trader Joe's calcium chews are a lot tastier than the can of Viactiv I have. No wonder I keep "forgetting" to eat them. I need to work on the theory that the sooner I eat them, the sooner I can move on to something tastier. I have heard that Whole Foods has yummy chocolate ones. I will be checking that one out.
-
Hunting season over~ what to do~ha!??? Enjoy holidays everyone.
-
I just shoved some chocolate in my mouth while eating a prune......that worked nicely also
.

I will be picking up my first prescription for Arimidex tomorrow. Are you ladies taking it at night? I think I read that somewhere.
-
I take mine in the morning, I find that I sleep better than taking it at night.
-
I take mine in the morning.
-
Same here - I take mine in the morning. I tried taking it at night for a while but then my legs wouldn't stop bicycling! Probably good for the leg muscles, not so good for sleep and my sanity!
-
morning, just so there is a better chance of me remembering to do so. I bought one of those little seven day pill holders, that way, on a busy day I can just look at it and see if I've taken it or not !!!
-
Thanks, I'll try it in the morning first then, I have enough problems sleeping as it is! My doc just told me about soy yesterday, real soy foods are ok, pills & supplements are not.
-
Dakin...there is an Alternative Gals forum on here...you may want to check in with them to see what they are doing...wish you the best and make the best informed decision possible for yourself!
jsmiley...being tired is part of it - but it fades...if it persists, have the D levels checked - a little extra D did wonders for me.
-
Duh, I hate it when I post and there is another page to the thread ...sorry, I jumped ahead of things - blaming it on its Friday and my ever-present and then not fade-brain...
-
Initially I took it in the morning after breakfast but you know morning hour is so busy for me as I have to prepare breakfast and then lunch together, so I oftenly forgot to take my medicine. Then I have started taking it at night after dinner, it is regular now. But there is abnormal sleep as I wanted to be alongwith you all in the thread so I go to bed around midnight. I think my midnight is your noon if I am not wrong.
-
rajkumari, you are right: your midnight is our noon, depending on exactly where you are in India and where we are in the Western Hemisphere. I am in the Central Time Zone in the U.S., so it's pretty close to a 12-hour difference. I guess that means you are sound asleep as I write this!
I tried taking my Arimidex in the morning, but, like sunflowers, I also have to take thyroid medication (Synthroid) in the morning. Also, like you, my morning schedule is pretty hectic -- so I sometimes forgot to take the Arimidex until after lunch. I switched the Arimidex to evening, and take it when I take my cholesterol med. I don't think the Arimidex affects my sleep any more at one dosage time than the other. I do seem to have some problems sleeping soundly, but it's because of odd aches and pains that wake me up in the middle of the night. If I take an Advil (ibuprofen) or Aleve before I go to bed, I sleep much better.
I should mention that I haven't taken brand-name Arimidex since late October -- I switched to generic anastrozole then, and I haven't seen any difference in side effects at all.

I take mine at night. My doctor will not allow any Soy. If it happens to be in a drink, breakfast bar or cereal that I feel I just have to have it must be at least the fifth ingredient or further down on the list.
I have some side effects but they come and go. I seem to be having more problems this winter with the cold weather...especially with my feet...need to keep them warm.
Three years to go.
-
Thanks all, I'm going to start it tomorrow, couldn't seem to get the nerve up today. I do want to take it and know it's the best thing.
-
Hi Shelley,
I take my Armidex in the morning---best time to remember to take it with all my other vitamins. I do have sleep issues and have since my bc diagnosis. I have tried taking it at night and it keeps me awake.
Four more months until my 5 years are up on Armidex...scary and happy at the same time!!!
Michele
