Bloody Discharge, Breast Pain and ALH?

 Ok, I am a little confused about some symptoms I'm experiencing.  Is dark bloody discharge or breast pain generally an associated symptom of LCIS or ALH?

    no, neither of those are generally associated with LCIS or ALH. Have you told your doctor about it? sometimes it can be indicative of a benign fibroadenoma. I would definitely get it checked out.

    Would a diagnostic mammo ultrasound or a stereotactic biopsy show a benign fibroadenoma?  I've had all of those so far.  I called my surgeon and spoke to her nurse. She said to ice my breast every 20 minutes and she would talk to the surgeon and see if she wanted to do the excisional sooner.  I have been in horrible pain all day!  At times it has been almost unbearable.  Taking tylenol and using ice packs and waiting.  Sure hope this does not continue like this till the 30th!

    I don't know enough about fibroadenomas to know how often they do or don't show up on mammos or US.  Are the pain and the bleeding new symptoms since you had the SCB?  (what was the reason for the stereotactic biopsy initially? lump? suspicious mammo?)  I would definitely call and ask to speak to the doctor directly; maybe try and push for an MRI and get an earlier date for your excisional biopsy if you can.

    Normally LCIS has NO symptoms, is NOT seen on ultrasound, mammogram, or reliably on MRI, and is often found not AT the site of the 'suspicious lesion', but adjacent to it.  Its usually an incidental finding when they do a biopsy for something else.

    I've heard breast pain can be really, really miserable for some women.  I'm so sorry you are going through this. I've never had this, so hopefully some other women who have will post soon.

    I was diagnosed with LCIS and had no pain in the spot where it was found. But I do have a good bit of zingy but not severe pain throughout both breasts. I've been told that it's likely either nerves bothered during the several biopsies I've had or that it's the multiple papillomas that are in both breasts (diagnosed through MRI). I have another MRI scheduled for this Friday so we'll see what's changed in there.  I don't have nipple discharge but I have read that women with single papillomas often experience discharge and pain.  Definitely worth discussing with your doctors.  I'll be thinking of you and hoping for a quick, happy resolution.

    awb- I went in initially due to breast pain and consistent(non-spontaneous) nipple discharge, aerola swelling, and a general weird feeling in my breasts over the past year.  After different two exams a couple of months apart my gyno recommended I see a surgeon(specialist).  The mammo showed that other than having crazy dense breasts, I had a cluster of microcalcifications on the left lower side of my breast.  The same area that I have been experiencing pain and that feeling like milk or fluid is blocked there.  There is also a lump in that area but it did not show up on mammo.  After stereotactic, they said micros were benign and I had ALH.  They wanted to do an excisional to get more tissue to test.  The surgeon felt the lump but since it was on the same side as biopsied and she had never seen me before she said she could not be certain if it wasn't just a hematoma.  I know that it has been there for a quite a while and it is in the area where the majority of my pain stems from.

    leaf: thanks for your concern and info.  I woke up this morning in the same kind of pain. Tylenol helps and I guess despite my all natural nature I'll be utilizing these regularly until I have the excisional.  Hope to hear from the nurse today.  I forgot to tell her that in the past week I have developed an indention down the length of my left breast as well.  I am just so sick of all this!  I just want my life back!

    Heard from nurse.  Dr. says no surgery until the 30th.  I guess she knows best.  I am just supposed to ice and take pain pills for the next 20 days!  They said to wear two sports bras, offered a prescription for pain pills but I declined.  That will just cause more side effects(constipation and nausea).  So, I just pray the pain subsides and the days go quickly.

    Thanks so much for the thoughts and prayers! I am happy to say that my results were benign!!!! I don't know yet what the lump was or the specific findings but I know that I do not have cancer!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!

    Read the pathology report today and saw my surgeon. They found both fibroadenomatoid tissue and extensive fibrocystic changes.  She said there were many little cysts in the same area, which probably explains the pain.  She discussed the whole Fibrocystic Breast Disease/Condition thing with me and how it is connected to the ALH and the microcalcifications.  She said that it can at times be affected by hormone inbalances but she does NOT encourage hormone manipulation with either synthetic or bio identical hormones for those who are at high risk.  I feel like in many ways I am back at square one.  Although I am thrilled to have benign findings the reasons for my initial appt with the gyno were the fevers lasting for 7-10 days prior to my period(and other flu like symptoms), the extreme breast pain, and the discharge.  My pain has gotten significantly better since the surgery in that area but she said there is nothing I can do to prevent more cysts or scar tissue from forming.  That frustrates me.  I know the usual things.  Reduce or eliminate caffeine, reduce or eliminate meat especially meat (and dairy)with hormones.  Vit. E, evening primrose, OTC meds for the pain.  So, I guess I just live with this.  I am happy to not have cancer but my issue is the quality of life if I am in pain and having hormonal symptoms half the time.  I'm supposed to see the genetic counselor in the next six weeks to begin the process of genetic testing.  She said we will probably do alternating MRI's and mammo's but she is still deciding how best to screen me exactly.  Maybe she's waiting on the BRCA result.  I'm learning soooo much!  She was awesome to be patient and explain the details.  Medical people in general treat you soooo differently I have found when they know you "speak science".
