Anim OMG!! 63 weeks! That is inspirational! It keeps track?? This is what I love about technology! Sometimes it's just great!
KMMD, what kind of pec muscle issue are you having? (do you have implants?) I had issues when I had implants. I hope you can figure that out. Does the upper body work cause more LE or help you? When my LE is acting up, I wear a compression top (Assets garment from Target) and my LE sleeve when I do the upper body weights.
So today I did an hour on the eliptical, and I am dejunking while DH is away, and there was a lot of hauling and carrying!
Hope you all are well. We got snow here yesterday and it is suddenly very cocccooold!!! Hope you all are keeping warm!
-
Spring, quite frankly my eyes kind of glazed over about half way through the physical therapists description of which muscles were affected. Yes, implants. I can't go 2 days without stretching or I have stiffness and trouble with that chest and arm. Somewhere along the way I injured the pec and subclavius muscle and moved some ribs around etc.... yep, that's about where the eyes glazed over. Add in the lymphedema and it is a struggle. I'm not sure weight lifting and exercise make it better, but, exercise doesn't make the lymphedema worse thank goodness. I do need a better compression top I'll try out the Assets. I wear the sleeve all the time, but I need a better truncal compression garment
-
KMMMD, ouch. that sounds painful! I am sorry. I hope you can find a way to recover...
-
Thanks Spring. Interesting you mention implant issues. I talked to my PT about it and said when you think about taking the breast, cutting off the muscle fascia, then putting expanders under and expanding up, and then cutting the muscle again and putting in an implant you have to figure that muscle isnt going to be as strong and will have problems. PS always talk about muscle strength loss with TRAMs but not pec muscle strength loss with expander and implants. Her answer? Everyone uses their stomach muscles getting up and down every day, very few exercise like you do so they just don't notice the pec issues. They don't talk about it because it effects so few women. Now, how is that for a sad comment?
-
Idiot. I am sorry kmmd. I had implants for a while and never got "used" to them under my pec muscles. I was so relieved when they were removed. I then did stacked DIEP/GAP, which, of course, is no cake walk. I didn't want to sacrifice the ab or lat muscle either. I guess the community just thinks most women are inactive with the pec muscles? This is indeed very sad. Maybe it is even TRUE. That is sadder I think.

You gals just reminded me of doing push ups the other day. Only 5 very slow! but they were GOOD form! heehee I have to start building back up again.
I ended up sick with some stomach bug Sat. It was AWFUL! flashbacks of chemo days that's for sure, which sucked! Anyway, all better now. Back to working out soon and back on track. I tried Brussel Sprouts for the first time! They were good. Went on Whole Foods recipe site and printed a lot of recipes out and am determined to try some new things!!
Ainm, so cool that your machine reminded you of something GOOD!! yay!!
kmmd, hope you get some relief soon for your pec muscles, ouch indeed
Diane, 9 miles! all that training, you are like a machine now!!
Spring, loved your pics on FB, so beautiful! and Cheers to de-junking!! YAY!!

Can't beleive how cold it has gotten in a week. Seems everyone is exercising except me. Other than walking my Dd twice a day I haven't done anything. Puppysitting now two little ones. Guess I know what my News Year resolution should be.Everyone stay warm.
-
Joy walking the dog twice a day counts. Put even a couple of minutes of upper body strength after you get back and all of sudden it is a good day
-
I took last night off but tonight I did all the weights in the gym and an hour on the bike and it said 18 miles. That can't be right. But I was pumping, still, I think this one bike in the gym is off.!!
Tomorrow is Yoga.
My youngest daughter is a Freshman at UNC Wilmington (only meaningful to those in NC, I know!) and she just called after her last final exam. She thinks she is getting all A's and B's! I am so happy for her. She is a hard worker, but you never know when they go off to college if they will bomb out for all the partying. I know there is a lot of partying with this kid, but apparently, she is working too! Good to know...
YAY!!!
-
Love to hear about good grades!! Makes all the tuition payments worth it.
-
Good for DD Spring. That is wonderful.
Sore this morning, worked out hard the last few days. Except for the upper body and chest stuff they have me not doing until all this crud with my chest and shoulder sorts itself out. Which I hope is soon, I'm tired of it hurting all the time, between that and the neuropathy, staying up beat has been a bit difficult this week.
-
Spring, have your DD call my younger DD! Mine called yesterday and said she bombed a test! UGH!! She's been working nonstop and its interfering with her studies, now its a final next week that she says she is determined to do well in...we'll see
Joy, I've been 'just' walking too, but you are getting more in than me!
Stay strong everyone and let's try and remain upbeat, even if we're sore or full or busy, etc.!! We are in this TOGETHER!! Virtual hugs! xo
-
Yoga last night! I have found that all the "inverted" poses (like down dog, etc) make my LE act up. agggr. I guess I will wear my sleeve and a compression top next week. I just hate it, but I deal.
Today DH came home from his week long trip away. He has not yet seen all my "dejunking" - he and DD went out to get a bite to eat. I am on the edge of my seat, I hope he does not flip out.
-
I love to "dejunk" . My problem is my father-in-law, he takes all that stuff home. He is sure he'll need it for something.
Happy Friday everyone!
-
Did the weights today but no cardio. Tomorrow for that!
-
Spring, did DH flip out?? At least you know the inverted poses cause the LE to act up, that's progress. Good luck with the sleeve.
Diane, my sister moved to Henderson, she said she's not too far from the Galleria.
Been mall power walking at lunch...except today.
Happy weekend all!!
-
It has been an interesting week. I am puppy sitting two.My Dd stays on the bed because the little ones can't get up on it.So right now I am waiting for the rain to slow down so I can stuff everyone outside for a few. My bil is having surgrey on Monday. suppose to have his spleen removed but they found a bad valve in his heart so that has to be fixed first. He also has an infection in his body they are trying to contain. Keep my sister and her family in your prayers.
Hey Spring - that is great about your DD's grades. Especially in her 1st semester away from home.
KMMD- take care of yourself. Just take it easy
Changing from 1st shift to 2nd tomorrow.Have a great weekend.
-
1 hour on the eliptical today!
Kari, DH did not flip out I guess he knew it was coming, and he didn't do it, so oh well!
Joy, I wish you were closer to me, I'd love you to sit my pets!
-
Hi, all... Back from a hectic week in Las Vegas. Never hit the hotel gym (in spite of packing gym clothes and good intentions), but did wear a pedometer and was very surprised at how far I walked -- anywhere from 5 to 12 miles a day, which was partly because we walked 3 huge convention center gift shows, as well as between hotels because the weather was so beautiful. Other than that, I am dealing with the worst truncal LE flare I've ever had. It started a couple of days after we got there and hasn't subsided yet. Not sure what set it off, but I just posed that question in the LE forum, because I really want to avoid whatever it was in the future.
Well, just wanted to say, "Hi." I'll catch up on what I missed tomorrow. Diane, sorry we couldn't meet, and also that I had to cut our phone conversation short. But it was great talking to you, and I'm going to PM you about colleges. Deanna
-
Been walking!! Hi to all! Deanna, hope you figure out what triggered your LE - UGH!! hugs
-
Down day today. Work sucked and my PT appt was depressing. I need to find more work life balance again
-
Sorry KMMD, hang in there girl. You'll get it back.
Yesterday was the weights, and today 50 minutes on the home eliptical. Nice work out!
Deanna, did you fly there? Plane flights set of my LE bad. I even wear the trunk and arm compression garments. I have found it could take 3-4 weeks to recover. It is very bad if I forget to wear that stuff. Less so If I remember, but in any case, I always go through a period of recovery!
My last surgery also set it off bad - not sure if it's the surgery itself, or the lack of exercise after, or what. But it's been over 6 weeks since my last surgery, and today was the first day I had an inkling that maybe, just maybe, it is starting to east off a tad. ugh!!!
I do hate this, I really do. But I remind myself, I am alive, I am able to do the things I want to do. Overall, it could be a lot worse!! But yes, I admit, it is a PITA!!!! I am sure you would agree!!!

Saw my chiro after work yesterday...remember the flexibility routines I was doing and doing and doing? And then I was complaining that I felt like my legs wanted to break if I tried stretching them out certain ways? Well I've been miserable for quite awhile and thought back to when the pain started, it was with those routines...in particular this certain stretch that pulled on my legs a certain way. The chiro had his massage machine out and worked all through my pelvis, my glutes/sacrum, inner and outer thighs and then he worked my legs like a trainer, man it hurt so bad, but in a good way, and we made some progress. He said "I remember a couple visits ago you telling me that you were doing a new routine that was helping your back...but I told you how much tighter you were, and you were pushing yourself too much, you have to take it easy with the stretching, never push to pain"...well that would be me! push til pain, no pain no gain was always my motto! DUMMY!
Working through this stuff now, trying to take it easy and let myself recover. He also asked me to remind him what stage of cancer I was...I said Stage 3 and he said "great you are in remission" (he just lost his brother to cancer - pancreatic a few months ago) and he asked where the cancer spread, I told him my lymph nodes, so he asked if I have to wear a sleeve or if I get LE? I said not so far, knock on wood...I've been lucky. I feel for you gals experiencing LE.
kmmd, hope you find some balance soon, very hard I'm sure especially this time of year.
Hugs and stay warm and dry!!
-
Looks like another good thread for me. This one and the posting the exercising.
My problem is cold weather !! Hard to exercise even in the house looking out at it!!
-
hope this works, testing the new signature
erica31 welcome, you'll love it here
Kari, it is so hard to admit that pushing it makes things worse. Took me a long time to accept it--still don't do so well some days I guess
-
Yes I know I am posting early, woke up and couldn't get back to sleep.
Well today is my year anniversary since my surgery. I am so thankful it is this year and not last. I also want to thank all of you for your support. I love this thread. you guys keep me grounded and motivated.
kmmd, my motto is just breath and keep on going. Sometimes that is hard enough.
Kari I also live close to the Galleria, too close according to my husband.
Happy Wednesday everyone!
-
I know spread the wealth but I don't think that means the cold weather too. It was 19 when I walked the Dd this morning. Puppies have gone home for a few days but will be back next week. Relax for me and Dd. Time to clean the house up some. The poodle put her toys on the couch and the pekinese put them under the couch.
Erica13 - welcome. There is a rule on here and that is "10 minutes" of anything. Just move and try not to look outside. That could be depressing at times but look at the beauty of winter. Spring is coming and then we complain of the heat for a few months.
Everyone have a great week.
-
you are quite the optimist...spring is coming. Yes after 4 months of snow, ice and cold
Just (half) kidding. I do love watching the birds in winter
-
Welcome Erica! I love the "Spring is coming"...ha I was just thinking that last night as DH and I started out for a walk in the wrong clothing and about 7 minutes in we turned around and went home! Too cold for me!
Yes kmmd, it is hard, very hard, for me to admit that pushing things can make things worse. I've really really been trying to remember that this week, so I haven't really done anything! I have to find a happy medium somewhere. Maybe when DH goes back to work on 1/4/11 I can get back into a routine.
Joy, I get a kick out of your puppy/dog stories!!
Diane, cheers to a new year!! Things are lookin up babe!!
Today is our office food fest/gift exchange party and also my 4 month onc checkup! She had me do a blood test to check my estrogen and FSH. My FSH came back at 79.6 so that is good for my taking Arimidex. Hope all else checks out ok!!
Hugs to all! Stay warm and KEEP MOVING! (i'm saying that to myself too!)
-
ugh, just lost my post!! ahhhhhhhhck!
Kari, don't push to pain! Esp if you have an "injury" area. My chiro also tells me this. If I feel pain in my back or hips, I stop. He told me to do this too! There was one machine at gym that always hurt my back left hip, I just don't use it anymore!
Yoga last night was good, but I think all the inversion has me LE acting up again. Need to do the weights at the gym tonight, and cardio too. Snow here, hope I can get there. We leave for a road trip on Saturday! Gone for nearly a week! I hope my exercise routine is not too impacted. Have to check out the gym at hotel! We are driving to NOLA and I am getting my tattoo, and then DONE with recon!
