I think we've got a consensus on Black Friday. I don't get it either. I can not imagine standing in line at a retailer at 3:00am to buy anything...except maybe food if we were starving. This is my Christmas shopping strategy: 1) Maximum one store per shopping adventure; 2) Hit the store at an off time (Sunday morning, week night during dinner time, etc); 3) Maximum 30-minutes browsing/buying. Repeat until done..or until I give up and go on-line. HA!
Jenn - Sorry for your power outage saga. Isn't it amazing how little we can do without electricity?
Patty

Well....I've managed to get a little shopping done, but I repeat a LITTLE. I may try to get out this weekend to do some shopping before the crowds hit and/or during the week.
I heard a funny line at work that a co-worker used to someone. "Hold on.......wait a minute........ya' need to pump the brakes". When she said this to her boss who was giving her a instructions at a million miles a minute I thought we would all just fall out of our chairs laughing.
Hope all is well. Anyone planning on shopping or going to the movies this weekend?
-
Cute Jenn!
We have all sorts of party obligations this weekend... so the shopping will have to come next week (did some shopping during the week this week).
-
I spent yesterday cleaning, really, really cleaning. The kind that nobody sees, but makes you feel good and sleep better knowing it's done. I am hoping to tackle the office/junk room today. I took tomorrow off, just because and boy does that feel good. I have not particular plans, not even shopping, but I felt like I wanted a day off before DD comes home for Christmas and while DH is at work. I'll tell him tonight that I took the day off....... I am so looking forward to next year, I now have 6 weeks available to me, in addition to the various holiday's throughout the year and have not plans for surgeries or illness based time off. The time will be mine, mine, mine!!!!
Hope everyone has a great day and if you're not a Bengals fan - pull of the Saints. They need all the help they can get. For whatever reason they seem to have a hard time winning against losing teams this year and aren't really good cold weather players.
-
Jenn -- good for you taking that day off! And wahooo on 6 weeks vacation time in 2011!!!
-
I'm singing in a concert this afternoon.
Cleaning is (mostly) a thing of the past once more. I recently found a new cleaner after being without since May. She is wonderful. She does 3 hours, every other week, and it's enough so that I just do quickie cleaning in between. I would rather go out to work for next to nothing (which is what I do ) than have to really clean my house.
-
I went to an event today that featured, among other speakers, two women who founded this wonderful organization that helps women around the world to be economically stable and self-sufficient. Thought I would share the website, where you can order beautiful handmade goods (excellent Christmas gifts).
Here's the link:
-
Great site Lilah - thanks!
-
Lilah - Thanks for the link. Neat stuff for a good cause.
Jenn - I've been on a "deep" cleaning binge too! I've done the bathroom cabinets, my dresser, vanity and closet, kitchen pantry and cabinets, refrigerator and freezer. Very satisfying and, I must say, startling. Where did I get all this stuff?
Gilly - I never had a cleaning lady until I got cancer. In fact, I was quite against having someone else clean up our messes...how spoiled (I thought)! Then a friend wisely insisted I get one under the premise that I should use my chemo-limited energy for other things. Now I'm hooked! It is just wonderful to have someone cleaning my house while I'm at work. And she is such a nice gal (with three kids to feed) that I don't have it in me to tell her I don't need her anymore. So now I don't think of it as being spoiled, but as doing something good for someone... my little effort to reduce the unemployment rate. Twisted, huh?
Patty
-
Patty -- I love it! A great rationalization for having help. I've had someone helping me for several years now and I have to say I have become quite spoiled -- and I have no guilt! Just joy. Like you, at this point, I feel responsible toward her.
-
If I could remember how to do it, I'd post my latest hair picture - new color. Or we could all be facebook friends and you can see it in my "hair" album. Gillian Sharma (Idaho) (I'm sure I'm the only one!!!)
-
I'll friend ya gilly
-
I looked but could not find you on Facebook, Gill.
-
Oh well - I'll have to see if I can post it. I could change my profile picture - but they are so tiny!
-
I will try to get a picture taken soon......I just had my first real haircut and highlights since the loss of my hair. It's still very curly, but I just love it!!!
I've never had a cleaning person, but a lot of my friends do and love it. I've thought about it, but I love to clean - it's a sickness I know, but I love to clean. My mom used to say I should take stock in cleaning companies with all of the products and gadgets I buy.
Lilah - thanks for the link - I haven't been on yet, but read about and purchased a few things a while back from women that made baskets, bowls, etc, they were doing this to become independent and earn their own money.
-
They have some really nice, reasonably priced stuff, Jenn.
And I hate cleaning! I have to say it's the best money I ever spent and my only regret is that I didn't start sooner
Gill and Jenn you BOTH must update your avatars! Even if it's small it's still nice to see.
-
I will promise to try to have it done by the weekend.

have a question hope someone can help. I took my mother for a PET scan yesterday and she woke up very sick and cant move her arms and her legs are very sore. I just found out that they did the IV in her left arm even though she told them that they are not suppose to due to her left breast was removed. She also told them that she didnt have any lymph nodes removed (which she did). I asked the nurse if I could go with her during the scan but they told me no. I wish they would have because I would not have let this happen. Do you think she feels this way due to the put the IV in her left arm. I called the dr and she is going in today at 2:45. I just wanted to know if this is what is causing her pain. She has also had in the last 3 weeks, bone scan, chest scan and a sonogram of her stomach. Maybe too much radiation?. Thank you for any advise
-
Loves - I didn't think your Mom had node involvement, was there another surgery not mentioned? You should call the doctor, as there are may things that could contribute to this, especially at her age 76, 77?
-
Loves - I hope the Dr was able to pin-point the cause of your mother's problems!
Gill, Jenn - Can't wait for those new Avatars! I've been thinking about highlights, Jenn, so I'm happy to hear you're turned out well.
Patty
-
avatar just changed!
-
Gilly I love the new do! You look GREAT!
Loves -- hope your mom is OK. I don't think PET Scans can have that kind of affect on people so I agree with Jenn that she needs to be checked by a doctor. Stress could cause issues (and god knows all those tests are stressful)! And the no needles in MX side is to avoid provoking lymphedema (swelling of the arm and/or hand) ... which would not make her unable to move her arm (unless it was visibly very swollen I should think). Anyway... do let us know what the doctor says.
-
Thank you all for the advise. The dr. wasnt sure at this time what it was but thinks it was the the radiation she has had in the last few weeks for all the scans. So we wait and watch. We did get some bad news however they found a spot on her lung in the cat scan. We now have to wait until the results of the pet scan to see and compare the 2. UGH. The dr. was quite upset however because they never talked about the arotic anyrusm(sorry for the spelling) in the cat scan and when it was last check 3 months ago it was 3mm. So he is also requesting it be re read and he will let us know the results on that as well. Please pray for my mom. Jenn there was no node involement and no other surgurys.
-
Ugh...I just realized that I don't know where my camera is. I think my DD has it or at least I hope she has it or I'm in trouble....... I was going to take a picture of my hair.
loveshermother - I must have read your post incorrectly and apologize. I am sorry for all you and your Mom are going through and hope that answers come soon.
Gill - love the new picture!!! Thanks for sharing.
-
Jenn - we're waiting for a new picture!!!
-
Okay, my DD just handed me my camera about 30 minutes ago. I apparently left it with her when we went up to participate in the Rose Ball for her sorority. I am already in my evening "grubbies", but will work on this tomorrow. I am terrible with taking pictures, but I really want to show y'all my new hair.
-
Can't wait Jenn!
-
Gill - You look great in your little "pixy cut"! It even looks pretty straight. Is it straight naturally or do you (like me) have to go at it with the flatiron?
Jenn - Still waiting for your new pix...ha!
Loves - I'm glad to hear the doctor is getting on top of your mom's tests. I was thinking that perhaps the soreness in your mom's legs after the PET might be due to having to hold still for so long? Perhaps she was tensing her arms and legs? I hope she is feeling better and you get some actionable answers soon.

I know y'all think I'm delaying on purpose, but the card isn't in the camera and DD isn't home......I sometimes wonder if I'll ever have it all "together" again. I do have the phone camera, but I've never downloaded pictures from the phone to the computer....Hmmmm, something to think about.
How is holiday shopping going?
I had more done at this time last year going through chemo and feeling terrible than I do this year. I have some gifts, but not nearly where I should be.... I just don't feel like shopping. Internet or in the stores. Luckily I have most of my girls presents done and I do know what I'm getting for the rest of the people, it's just doing it!!! I have planned tomorrow, Thurs and Fri after work, I DO NOT want to shop over the weekend unless I have to. I haven't even started planning my annual baking fest - what is wrong with me? I don't feel grumpy, just don't feel like doing it.
-
LOL Jenn -- I am sure you will get to it (the picture)! As for shopping -- I'm pretty much done!
