I had a BMX on 10/27/10, I am 3 1/2 weeks into recovery, have seroma fluid but doctor has said it will be reabsorbed, has anyone else experienced this and not had to have it drained, I am having weird sensations in the chest wall. Fluid is uncomfortable but tolerable at the present.. Will it go away on it's own??? I am scheuled to return to work in two weeks, worried that I will have to keep the surgical bra or a pressure bandage on. Very uncomfortable. Need words of wisdom from my sisters out there.

I had one after my lump... and they told me the same thing. mine started being painful over 4the of July so needless to say, hot and cold pads, nothing worked, I was miserable. when I went to the doctors - he could see that I was uncomfortable to say the least... they drained the spot and I was like a new woman. it was worse than the surgery... it was painless since the nerves are still frayed. I would keep a close eye on it.

the second time when i went in for something simliar (was really a poor choice of a bra and taht does make a difference)... is that it was a small amount and was reabsorbed.. but they can drain that as well.

with the long weekend, i dont know if I would take a chance. it happened to me.

I had several, all of which needed to be drained - but I had a drain come out a few hours after surgery and because of other complications they couldn't reinsert it. If you're uncomfortable and it's getting worse, I say call and have it drained. I agree with Helen in that you don't want to let it go over the long weekend because draining it is quick, painless and provides instant relief. Best wishes, I hope they are willing to do this for you if you decide to call!

I had a seroma twice after BMX my PS drained them both times in his office. i did not have any drains at all so that is why i developed them but they were no big deal and it is so easy to drain and i felt so much relief from pressure. after the two times i thought i would need it drained again but it went away without a problem and my body absorbed the fluid. the PS doesnt liek to go in to many times b/c of risk of infection. if there isnt much and your not extremely uncomfortable im sure you will be ok in a few more days! but if your feeling discomfort then i wuold get it drained it would be worth it so you can enjoy your holiday!

Well I waited until after thanksgiving before calling the BS and she still does not want to aspirate it, says to give it a little more time, so I am waiting and anticipating the fluid to go away.  She says if it isn't gone by 12/13, she will aspirtate it for me.  Guess we will wait and see. Thanks for all of your replies, really appreciated the info.

2Nan - How painful is it?  How swollen now?

Personally, if it's hurting and extremely swollen, I'd call the BS back and say I want her to take a look at it now.

About a month and a half before my TE exchange on 11/24 I had about 5 aspirations and several drains due to Seroma.   Now I was 6 months bl-lat post-op so much further out than you, so maybe that makes a difference.

I will tell you if it's painful, an aspiration will make it feel sooooo much better!

Hi Bec9861, I guess I should have said I actually went in to her office and she said to give it a little more time,I will wait until the week of 12/13 and see if it has gone down any, she didn't seem overly concerned by the amount of fluid, and I did express to her that it is uncomfortable, so I will play the waiting game and take it from there, I am returning to work on 12/6 and hope that it doesn't get any worse, so far it has stayed about the same, tolerable but uncomfortable at the same time.  Thanks for your response.

I had a seroma on the right side of my BMX... was about 3 fingers width wide below the incision and into my arm pit..was like poking a water bed, watching the ripples. Never had it drained....absorbed on its own. Wearing something to support your chest gently may help.... jostling in the car bothered me ALOT in the beginning

. If you get EXTREME pain from it CALL, As long as its tolerable .... you can wait/watch

Wierd chest sensations I had as well. Shooting '"Electrical Zappers " ... they always took me by surprize.  Super sensitivty....and strange vibration sensations.... along with numb areas.

I am 5 months out from BMX.

    Hope this helps

    Peace

Thanks Brazos, I am glad to hear that it will reabsorb on it's own, not many people have said that, Mine is about he same as yours was, what did you use to support your chest???? I was using an ace bandage but then thought it might be to binding.  Can't wear the surgical bra, it is tooo tight against my chest wall, makes it more uncomfortable.  I hope everthing is going well for you.

2Nan.... I tried the wide ace bandage esp for car rides.... gave that up too!  Ended up just splinting myself with my hands in bouncy sitchys....... I just tried the surgical camisole with fluffs as of late and can not even deal with that.  I found Mens undershirts/short sleeved.. with a almost snug fit was just what felt right. Helped with the swelling rubbing in my armpits against my arms as well. All things are comming along way to slow.... but am on the mend.  Thanks much for asking and Back Attcha!
