    Oh, HUGS Michelle, that must be a pain in the foot.

    Valjean~where I work we had a Blood Mobile from ARC come Oct 27th and I gave a pint.  Then 8 days later I had my blood work done for the CEA, CA 15-3 and CA 27-29.  The 27-29 was abnormal. So both my onc and BS said not to worry, a cold, stress, infection and she said giving blood could very well have thrown the number off, so I'm going to take their word for it and will have them redone in 4 months.  

    I call my proctologist the butt doctor for short, he is very nice.

    I didn't even think B/C survivors could give blood!  At least for five years, if not forever.  What is the ruling on that?  (Remembering the story of the guy who died from metastatic breast cancer, not from having the disease himself, but getting it from transfused blood.)

    Elimar..I used to believe the same thing.

    But don't they check the blood for diseases?

    I was told in the same briefing as the discussion about lymphodema that I could no longer donate blood.

    Even my doc. has warned me not to donate blood. At the time of blood test they took the sample from my left arm. Still my right arm is not properly working as normal as earlier because of dissection of nodes . So we better not to take the risk.

    Yes you can, you have to be a year out of treatment.  I am over 3 years, I take Arimidex but that does not matter.  Believe me I checked thoroughly the qualifications to donate.  They screen the blood also.

    So far I have no trouble with my veins all sticks and blood pressures are done on my left side and I asked my oncologist first, she said there was no problem.  

    I also did not have chemo.

    Visit your American Red Cross web site.  I thought the same thing, I even called.

    yes deborye i I strongly agreed with you. I was feeling very bad and wonder on the warning. Sometimes on emmergency, we can help people by donating blood. I will visit web site.

    Don't take this the wrong way, Deborye...the fact that I did not have chemo either makes me even more wary to give blood because the only systemic thing I have had is the Tamox.  Everyone hopes that is clearing out/killing any tumor cell escapees, but if the hormonal drugs were 100% effective at doing that, we would have no women having recurrences after five years.  Since that is not the case, it does seem like sometimes the cells are able to evade the hormonal drugs (and chemo too for that matter) and travel in our bloodstreams or hide in an organ.

    When I get a chance I will check on the Red Cross site.  I know when you donate, you disclose all relevant diseases you may have had, and they must have a good screening process otherwise they would have refused to take blood from you.  I used to give occasionally.  If it is allowed, I don't mind giving again.  I have a blood type they really like too.

    since I have needle phobia I never have donated either-well, one time, eons ago, and they told me "nevermind".  (Probably smelled like wacky-tobacky then!)

    I remember my BS saying that even though no nodes are involved and no lymphatic invasion, 3% of cancer cells can get into the blood stream.  Embarassed

    Yikes, 3% via the blood vessels!!!  My onc said 'even with no nodes, no lymphatic invasion and no vascular invasion some cells may have made a run for it' and that it why we are offered hormone therapy as insurance if it is appropriate.  Always meant to donate blood but for one reason and another I never have.  Seems like I won't now.

    Good morning! On this day of giving thanks I am grateful for all of you. :)

    Oakley, as I read your post my heart ached. I have to share that so many of us can relate and I hope that helps to hear a little bit. I do remember after meeting before even having my surgeries with the onc, I got back in the car and cried and cried and honestly even said, I am not going to do this.. I can not do this.. If anyone thinks I am doing this I am not. The fact was I was always going to do whatever I had to do and whatever I decided my plan would be and I was going to do it well. I just wasn't going to do it at that moment because at that moment I needed to do something else. I needed to cry and cry. That's just as important sometimes. I know you are going to do amazingly well because I can tell that you are so very, very, very strong. You are going to be quite incredible and as some others have shared with me are going to come out of this being even stronger than before. I know you are. You are in my prayers. Talk soon.

    Michelle, wow, wow, wow! You are amazing, too! I am so happy for you.:)

In years past, I stay up late tonight and check out all the sales in the fliers and go out in the morning to try to get a couple deals. I think I am still going to go for old times sake. It is fun, but I don't go crazy. Is that something that people do across the country and in other countries? Or is it just a local thing? Now that I actually think about it, getting up at 4 a.m. and lining up outside a store in freezing cold weather with other crazy shoppers to get the one item that has a big sale price sounds absurd, but I probably will do it!     I am on board with all those who were told that you could/should never give blood.  I was surprised that they allow it now.  They (The Red Cross) must know something that our physicians don't.

    Congratulations, Michelle.  Take it easy today and let your family wait on you.  Such good news for you!

    I hate crowds, and would rather not fight through them.  I went looking last year in the afternoon, but it was still awful.  We have an alternative traditiona dn we head out to a gun range and shoot sporting clays.  We stilol spend some money, but I dare someone to crowd me there! Innocent

    hey ladies! Happy Turkey Day..we'e just hangin out, going to Flanagins later, for those delicious FRIED tumbleweeds. ill have nexium and phengran on board. have to, for every meal..seems like a lot of trouble for onions, they'll "be back" later, but its Thanksgiving so wth!! i space my fried stuff carefully. im still at like 50% digestion, tests say. so, no stuffing the turkey and then stuffing me with the turkey.. its' good to see you all here..MEECE, you're a girl after my own heart..any day is a good day to shoot a gun! lol   enjoy, every one. im so glad for the good news here.

        we lost a very dear friend monday to cancer of the stomach. he made the decision to go "alternative" for quite sometime,and when they had to do emergency surgery on his bowel obsruction, he didnt make it.  i was really angry at him, so ive been quiet. but, i defend all the time that we all get to make our decisions..so, im over it. i know God does all things for the good, and this was the easier, softer way for my friend. it ust takes time to "work it all out" in your own mindd..

        so, im grateful especially today for the years he was here, and trying to appreciate all the friends that are in my life today...ad youladies are high on that list. with the year, year1/2 i've had, you guys have been stalwart friends to me. thank you so much. i thank God you stick around to encourage we, who are behind you in the journey..... with much fondness today...as always.....    3jays

    3jays - I am sorry for the loss of your friend also.  You sound very like me - I go very quiet when I am struggling with emotional turmoil and just need to be on my own to process it all.  Glad to see you back with us.  Enjoy your Thanks giving dinner.

    BarbaraA - I am grateful every day for the Internet as it enables me to have my wonderful BCO friends for whom I am truly thankful.

    I had a quiet Thanksgiving with my Daughter.

    The other DD called. I think the distance start bothering me during holiday Season.

    But Im so grateful to have them

    I started reading a Thanksgiving Prayer before we ate and I got all choked up thinking of my Mom so my DH read it.  Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday.
