Hi. wondering if any one got a full hysterectomy after being on tamoxifin. I'm 47. doctor is reccommending it because I've been bleeding ( spotting) for a month. been on tamoxifin 1year and 1/2.. my question. how intense menopause symptoms after? I'm already hot flashing for a year. thanks

    I've had the same problems after taking tamoxifin.  My problems started with the uterine lining getting too thick & heavy periods.  My gyn has done a couple of uterine biopsies before deciding that I needed a hysterectomy and found complex endometrial hyperplasia with atypia.  There are a couple of options you may want to look into before making a decision.  I had a D&C and an in office procedure ablation done about a year apart.  My hysterectomy is scheduled for 10/8 and am definitely dreading menopause because I'm not able to take any HRT because of my previous breast issues.  By the way, I am 48 years old.

    my immediate surgical menopause was  pretty rough for the first year, but after that it leveled off. But I was recovering from major abdominal surgery (TAH/BSO) at the same time, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. If you are having laproscopic surgery, the recovery is a lot easier and quicker.

    Does a full hysterectomy include removing the ovaries?  If not, it would not change your menopause position.  I have seen on these boards that they will remove the uterus and leave the ovaries if the problem is with bleeding or the lining, but have not had the experiense myself (yet).

    thanks for your responses. my doc wants my ovaries too.. laproscopic for uterus, ovaries invasive surgery.... so loooooong recovery time.

    , thank you for that information. I will schedule surgury I can't take this huge fiboid anymore. I have been having night and day sweats for a year so I can cope with that. I guess its just the hollowness of missing organs.... guess it's more of the emotional aspect that is worrying me. avoid the movie " don't let me go" creepy movie about organ donors

     Hello, I was dx last yr 2009 with BC, finished  ACT  on Feb 12,2009 and i never got my peroid back but last month i started to get pelvic pain and a watery discharge. I went to see my GYN , i was due for a yrly anyway. Well i had pain on exam was was sent for a trans-ultrasound. The ultrasound came back as increased thickness of my endo is ( 1.6cm). Well the Dr was concerned so i ended up having a D& C with a hysteroscopy. The result came in yesturday as being Simple Hyperplasia. I was planning on taking Tax but i believe since i have this DX i am no longer a candidate for it.  My peroids stop a month after taking chemo and the last one in Dec  lasted for 2 weeks straight. I am 46 now was 45 at time of Dx. I still haven't had my exchange and also dued for colonoscopy since the last had the type that turns to C and that was almost 4 yrs ago..3 yrs is recommended.

    Well  I am wondering what form of plan i should take. GYN said I am going have to come up with a plan, he see me having a hysterectomy in the future but right now is offering 6 months of Endo biopsies. I was suppose to had started TAX a while ago but i am kinda glad i didn't as i understand this, it could of been blame on the TAX or made my situation worse. TAX can increase the thickness as i am told. Now i am stuck here without a well thought out plan. I can't start hormones because i need to be at least a yr of being menopausal to start Arimidex, ONC not convienced that i am Menopausal.

    So the hysterectomy is on the table in the near future, i would like to wait and see a bit on how things go ,,waitting for my 6 month biopsy or if anything unusal happens in the meantime.

    I had hot flashes since Chemo but the last month they have stopped. The hot flashes weren't unbearable u deal with it as best as u can and do what is best for u in your own certain circumstances.

    I wish u luck in your decision but was wondering why are u having the hysterectomy? Have u had a biopsy with hydroplasia with Atypia?

    Hi ladies,

    Surgical menopause!  Went through it at 32.  Guess what, went through it again when it was time for natural menopause.  And Guess What?  I then got diagnosed stage II IDC.  My heart goes out to all of you having to go through TAH/BSO as a result of BC.  I don't know if I could have handled that much as a result of my bc diagnosis.  You can get through it.  They make a hormone cream if you get too dry called Estrace.  Since I had it laying around I put some on my neck and guess what? instant face lift.  I  asked BS if it caused my bc and she laughing said "NO" So there you go.  Just thought I'd mention it.  You all are in my prayers.

    DX: stage II IDC triple negative 2.5 cm 8/24/10

    I just turned 45 and also have found out that I am Brca1 positive.  My grandmother, aunt and mother were all diagnosed with cancer before 40.  Thankfully, my mom is a 30 year survivor to the disease!!   Now, having the information I do, I am faced with making decisions about prevention.  I have been very fortunate to be in a breast health program in Calgary AB, so for the past 8 or more years I have been getting good screening and now for the past 3 years have also had MRIs.  

    First off, hats off to all of you surviving cancer on a daily basis!!  You are an inspiration and your stories are all so different.  You are true heroes as you deal with each day!! 

    For anyone out there Brca1 positive, how did you make your decisions about prophylatic breast surgery and reconstruction and also having your ovaries removed?  I am very nervous about surgically induced menopause!!  It scares me more than the surgeries to be honest.  I do have a surgery date booked for Feb of 2011, but will be meeting one more time with my gyn to ask more questions.  I guess I am thinking I can still back out of the hysterectomy.  I am finding these decisions so hard to make and one day I will decide yes to the surgeries and then the next day I have talked myself out of it!!   Can anyone help me out that has gone through surgically induced menopause....are the hot flashes and mood swings, depression, etc as bad as I have read on other sites?  If I were to do the ovaries first, which I understand would cut my bc risk by about 1/2, I don't think I would be able to go on HRT if I would still have my breasts??  I have also read that some drs say if you are under 40 you should have your ovaries removed,,,,so where does that put the 45ish aged person?  Thanks to any advice from others  :)
