Help! Feel a mass pressing against right vaginal wall
Have told no one. Found it last night. Waiting (rather anxiously!!) for call back from onco's office. Help, anyone, what could this be? I am very quietly freaking out. Anyone?!

A co-worker made a similoar discovery a while back (she is not a cancer survivor) and it was Pelvic Organ Prolapse, SHe is having surgery to correct it soon. Yucky, for sure but better than a tumor...Keep us posted.
-
Oh, how scary. hope you can get it seen to pronto.
Have you had a Hysterectomy?? Like Weesa says, it could just be something sagging inside?
Keep us posted.

Hey Sherri,
I would call my gyno but unfortunately she was one of the docs who missed my bc on a mammo...so, I'm disinclined (to say the least) to go back to her. There are birds less "flighty" than she is. Thanks for the good wishes. Still waiting to hear from onc.
Thanks Weesa. Never thought I would be hoping for pelvic organ prolapse. One of the many ways cancer changes your perspective!

It could very possibly be a rectocele. Google for more info. Very common, esp as we get older (how old are you?) and not a big deal.
-
I'm 51. And thanks, I'll google. Also, in reviewing PET scan reports from 7/09 a "2.5 cm. Gartners duct cyst" is noted on the right vaginal wall. Have no idea what that is, but maybe that's what it is? Time moves like a monolith waiting for this call. Thankfully, I work at a food pantry and we are in the midst of giving out thousands of turkeys, so I don't have time to be too self-obsessed.

Have to go see a gynecological (sp?) oncologist. Can't get in until Monday (ahhhhh!) the 29th. Makes for a great holiday:( Definetly not telling DH. I mean between all the other body issues bc has wrought and their effect on our sex life, this he doesn't need to know until and if he needs to know. So be prepared for a lot of posts ladies! I will simply live in the land of denial and assume that this is a "Cyst gone wild". Hell, if it can happen to girls, why not cysts:)?
-
Could be a little cyst in the "Bartholins gland" in the vagina. I once had this when I was 18 years old. But it did feel like a cyst that was painful in the vaginal wall.

Please don't stress. Since your PT scan from '09 already documented an inch sized "Gartner's Duct Cyst" on the right vaginal wall, there is almost 100% probability that this is what your feeling now! The cyst probably has grown since then, causing you to feel it.
Gartner's Duct cysts develop from a potentially persistent "duct" or tube which runs within an apron-like drop of thin tissue from our fallopian tubes to the lateral vaginal walls. Their development is related to our fetal reproductive and urinary tract development. Gartner was the one who discovered this, most likely upon finding one in a patient too, hence the name. While most "ducts" obliterate by collapsing, dissolving and or ending, in some of us, the end of the duct persists, and with time may collect tissue fluid. When large enough, they are then recognized clinically as a Gartner's duct cysts, apparently your's by Scan prior to Exam.
If a simple one time needle drainage (probably with culture) doesn't resolve the problem permanently, the cyst can be removed in a minor out patient procedure or nowadays, in many physicians office since they are equipped to do minor procedures. Most OB-Gyns will encourage the later but there is a choice to go less first and advance in resolution.
So I hope you don't worry yourself too much. Your own gynecologist will make the diagnosis and explain all the details.
Best to you,
Tender

littletower (((hugs))) and I'm sorry you have to worry.
Wow, is all I can say - I didn't know any of the various things "it" could be and feel like I've learned some new stuff.
-
Hi LT ,
I echo Tender's comments.
Please relax until you get the all ok, which I am sure is coming!
-
LT - I didn't know about all of these other things it could be, but my first reaction was a cyst or blocked pore. Especially if it sort of sprung up over night.
Hang in there.

Ok this is embarrassing but I had a calcified cyst in my vaginal wall. After the gyn removed it he asked if I used sex toys cuz he couldn't tell what it was!! UH no... thank god the path came back as a calcified cyst. It was painful.
-
I can always count on you guys, thank you sooooo much! Your simple words of support, cyber hugs and just knowing you're out there somewhere is enormously helpful.
Tender...you must be in the medical field. And I am so happy you are. I am hoping and praying its a cyst and that treatment will be simple, easy and without much "downtime" down there.
Carcharm, I think that's funny. I wish it had been caused by a sex toy. Things have been a little quiet in that particular direction:)
Again, you guys rock...thanks so much.

lt; good thing you read the PET scan so that Tender could interpret it so well for you.
I had a varicose vein in my vagina once. It was after childbirth; but I had convinced myself if was "vaginal cancer". funny thing is that it was thanksgiving w/e and it was ruined d/t my worry.
Sounds like you can relax and feel secure in the knowledge imparted by Tender. Sometimes "angels" are on the web!
My local CareCenter has a great GYN and she is available much more quickly. Both my daughters have used her and she was excellent. A friend of mine had some post-menopausal bleeding recently and had to wait 2months to see her gyn; then that appt was postponed 6 wks. So she followed my lead of the CAreCenter GYN. Might be irrelevant to your case; but I'd suggest seeing a MD who solely practices GYN. the OB practice keeps then too tied up. Or try a Nurse Practitioner associated with a GYN. Once she sees the irregularity then she will consult with the GYN. Best wishes.

Girding my loins for what promises to be a looooong weekend
(get it?) 'll let you know the scoop as soon as I know. Keeping my fingers (but not my legs) crossed for Monday (te-he....sorry couldn't resist that one). Happy Thanksgiving to all you wonderful, brave and beautiful women (and men for that matter) out there!! May your turkeys be hot and our hot flashes be cool and may we all have at least one moment where we shout "F*&CK YOU CANCER!!!". Just try not to do it at the dinner table.

Thinking of you today. Hope the appointment was uneventful and reassuring and that the whole thing is NOTHING! Please let us know what you find out.
-
Just read your posts and just wanted to pipe in my support. I hope we hear good news soon! Doens't it suck though, all these extra things that probably wouldn't have freaked us out before, of course our minds go straight to one place. I'm having my own issues now and having to go through all the preliminary stuff, when I WANT ANSWERS NOW! Too bad it doesn't work that way!
I'll pray for good results for you!
Take care,
Sharon

It's a Geitners cyst! Yea!!! Leftover from my pregnancy 21 years ago (crazy, right)? I can leave it (but it's big and painful), try and bring it to a "head" (gross!!!) and then have it lanced (grosser!!!), or have it surgically removed. Think I will leave it for the time being.
Can't thank all you guys enough who gave me so much good advice and warm encouragement. Don't know what I would do without you!!!
-
So glad it was good news. Now please go back to living your previously scheduled life.
-
Well, horray for Geitner!
So glad you have an answer, and so glad it is good news!
-
I'm happy that was nothing serious,
It's good having pet scan at the beginning and refer to it sometimes .
Just a question i did have a whole body pet and ct scan (including abdominal and pelvic) when i was iagnosed 2 months agao , and because the cancer were not anywhere else other than breast and nodes which we already knw it wasn't anywhere else and i was so excited that i forgot to ask if it also shows the ovares , and other female organs and if there is anything even cysts in there ???
I wanna do a apa smear and i am on chemo now and i am so scared !
pleae share your thoughts
-
I'm far from being as well informed as some of the others on this board, but while I know my pet scan showed this, don't know if it did, or would, show the status of the ovaries and cervix. I do know that I read (I think on here) that you shouldn't do a pap smear while in treatment because it's common to get false positives. Is that right ladies?
-
Littletower,
Great news! I find it very odd that we are celebrating a cyst in your va-jay-jay..but such is the life of a breast cancer sister. : D
