    Morning....thunderstorms here but it sure is warm!  I skipped the gym as I am wiping down ev ery surface in the house....a bag of popcorn caught on fire in the microwave and before I could get to it black smoke was pouring out.  The smell is terrible!  But with the warm temps I am keeping as many windows open as possible and it is much better.  Don't know what happened as I only do one minute at a time as I don't trust the instructions...I threw all the bags away....if I want popcorn I will go to a movie!  Yucky smell.....

    Elf.....you are so funny!  PIrates Gym!!!!  I love it!  Hope your LE is better today!  I should have taken a video of Santa with my phone but I fixed him.....now he just waves!

    Donna...happy #2 to you!  I made it to 4 years on the 20th and hopefully will be around for 4 more, and then 4 more, and then 4 more....and more, please!

    Jackie....I loved that picture of the little bear!  And yes, Pat...where are you?  We miss you!

    Just wantd to comment on men and shopping.  I buy all DH's clothes and I put out his outfit every day.  He's colorblind so trust me....if I don't do this, he looks rather strange when he gets dressed!  And his slacks, the navy and black ones....I had to write what color they are on the inside.  Never forget the time he dressed himself and when he came home he was wearing navy pants and a black shirt - it was not a good look!  Esp. with greenish yellow tie.

    Time to boil some more vinegar in the microwave....if this doesn't work I will try coffee grounds.  Burnt popcorn is terrible....

    elf -- yes maybe we can meet for lunch in the western burbs, that would be nice, once I'm fully recovered from surgery that would be great.  sorry you are so conflicted about moving...it's hard, I know.  I lived in the Dallas area for work for about 18 months..... what I remember is that they control the heat and humidity down there the way we control the cold......  everyplace is so super air conditioned, I had to carry a sweatshirt with me wherever I went, when it would be 100 degrees outside!  But the tiniest bit of ice on the roads?  Completely shut the whole town down.  Good luck with however this works out for you!

    Hope everyone is having a good day.  Off for a visit with the PS... see if this necrosis is any better, and why all of a sudden my armpit is swelling.

    Wow...

    Time flies when your having fun and getting well.  I'm so glad for you Wendy......and more and more and more to you.

    Bummer about the popcorn incident.  I would assume that you just got something that was missed by quality control....though who would know what constitutes an ut-oh in this case.  I am assuming ( and boy could this be wrong ) that there is some sort of QC set up for everything....even microwave pop-corn.  Knowing me I'd probably write them a letter....whereupon they would send 20 coupons I'd be afraid to use. Not that it would help all that much since you need quick relief --- but any time you want to rid an order.....a bowl of white vinegar will do the trick.....if you don't need to be concerned with a time aspect as you do.  Just set it around in a bowl.  I do this in my dark closets once in awhile.

    Very warm here today as well --- lots of wind --- may blow up some rain.  This time of year is always iffy. 

    Hope you all have a wonderful day and enjoy a little warmth.....afraid there won't be much of it left for us.

    Good morning all.. well, Gabs had a rough day yesterday which means we ALL had a rough day.. no Nanny on Sundays.. maybe too much going on with pics..

    Happy Cancerversaries to all!!  although I will never reach the 'end' of treatment, I am hoping to be here with you all to celebrate for many many more!!  I've been asked by quite a few why I stay on this thread, and I can honestly say it's my favorite one on the site.. You all prove to me there IS life beyond this disease, and that's what I like to focus on and share with everyone.. and the support I get from all of you is wonderful.. So THANK YOU!

    Lunch today is at Chili's.. not my cup of tea, but some of my friends are a lot less adventurous eaters.. so I will make up for it with my black rice sushi tomorrow!!  Found where I can buy black rice now.. accidentally bought 2 lbs (my son put one in the basket and I didn't see).. I think I'll be having Gabs eating it too..

    Looks like the rain is done and sun is peaking.. better go on my walk before it changes its mind!!

    My town  is shaken up.  Did you hear about the young girl who was allegedly sexually accosted at St. Mary's College by a boy who goes to Notre Dame and the poor sweet thing  killed herself (unless an accidental overdose).  She lived in my town and she went to my church and to the high school my daughters went to.  I feel so badly about it.  She did have issues with depression... so tragic.  This did occur weeks ago but now the parents are hiring a prosecutor to uncover and get to the truth of what happened. She was absolutely beautiful. I have had so many students on meds for depression and this gets me all concerned that something is wrong and we do not pick it up.

    Those are nice thoughts, Marina.  I look at that baby and I say you are in for the long haul.  I hope to be "chatting" with you thirty years from now (hopefully I will still have my wits about me). I would say forty years from now but that would be pushing it for me (hee, hee, hee).

    OK, question on my mind - what to give nurses at the Hostpital fo the holidays? I'm thinking small bath and body works sets for the few that I deal with regularly??  Here is the BIG question - do people give Dr's something?  Are they even allowed to accept gifts??  What are those in tx going to do?  What have those that are done done??

    We sent a huge baskets of stuff to the nurses from Zingerman's when my mother-in-law was in and out of the hospital (she passed of lung cancer at age 86… chronic smoker). She didn't go to the chemo treatment area though. I think they tried some chemo on her but she couldn't handle it.

    I might do the same. Need to give this some thought though. Not sure if I want to wait till chemo is over since I finish in January. Of course I could think of something healthier like those fruit bouquets but they have to be eaten that day.

    Marina, I am sure doctors can accept it.  If you give him a box of super fine chocolates (Lady Godiva) he can share among staff.  You could give it to the receptionist to give to him.  Our oncologist  doctor does not celebrate Christmas, as you know,  but I am sure he would appreciate a box of candy at the holidays.  A leather photo album is good as he has family.   A pen and pencil set  is certainly not too personal. Okay, I am on a roll.  A nice bottle of wine.  He may not drink but it is nice for him to have it.  I love olive oils and I know that sounds like an odd gift, but a special olive oil is a great gift.  There is an olive oil store in Long Grove and they sell wonderful gourmet oils.

     I did not give gifts.  I think it is loovely that you do.  I ended on December 10 and I just hugged and  kissed my way out of there and we all agreed it would be great if I never returned....and I haven't,  thanks to the grace of God.  I kinda now wish I had given gifts! Have fun choosing.

    Thanks for some great suggestions!!  Since it is the holiday season.. and since I will be there at least every 3 weeks.. I feel like I should do something.. At least now I have some ideas!!  I can always count on you guys!!  Am trying to start early as I HATE the crowds and may opt for on-line shopping so need the extra time!!  Thanks!!

    Good morning everyone!  Thanks for the four-year congrats.  I didn't really celebrate the day...just felt very grateful for the years since the diagnosis and became very reflective.  Wendy, what did you do for #4?  Did you celebrate or did the reflective mood hit you, too?  Thanks also lago for the Beatles tribute!  Needless to say, I've heard that songs hundreds of time and get a laugh out of it each time.

    Marina, have you thought about a nice holiday candle for your chemo nurse?  Or how about a neat Christmas ornament for the tree that features a nurse or relates to nursing?  I used to get Christmas ornaments from the kids when I taught school and I still remember those kids when I put them on the tree each year.  I didn't do anything for the chemo nurses when I was done, but I brought in Dilly Bars from the Dairy Queen for the radiation crew!  They loved them!   Gabs is SO cute!  She certainly looks like her mommy!

    Oh Susan, that is so terrible about that young gal in your neighborhood.  There are so many young adults that are depressed.  I took one of my former students to lunch this past week and she's really depressed, too.  At least she has sought out counseling but it breaks my heart to see how she struggles.  I don't know what we are missing with them, but it doesn't appear that we are reaching as many as we should.

    I woke up this morning with fever blisters on my nose...just in time for the Thanksgiving festivities.  That either means that I'm coming down with a cold, a sinus infection, or I've been under too much stress.  Either way, they're pretty ugly.  I had told Wendy TY that I'd drive her to Herceptin today and was glad that she had a relative who stepped in to do it.  She certainly doesn't need any cold germs from me if that's what I'm brewing up here.  Maybe I should check out lago's stress relievers!  :-)

    So what is everyone doing for the holidays?  My kids will be rolling in Wednesday night and I am cooking the traditional turkey dinner.  That means I'd better firm up my grocery list and get everything I need tomorrow.  The turkey is already defrosting in the frig.  The only bad thing about this is that I am the world's worst gravy maker and everyone loves turkey gravy.  My mother always made the best but never took the time to show me how to do it.  It was her thing!  Now she's gone and I've regretted not making her show me.....and so has probably the rest of the family!

    Well, I'm off to write a few questions today, get that grocery list ready to take tomorrow, and yes.....anal me, I'm also going to iron a bit this afternoon!

    Hey Laura, I've tried about everything for fever blisters over the ages.  Taking mega doses of Lysine seem to help the best but it's better if I catch it before it spreads so much and last night I didn't have any inclination that I was getting one.  Thanks for the suggestion of the antibiotic cream. I'll give it a try.

    Is a fever blister like a cold sore? If yes then I find that Abreva works best for me but I have to catch it right away. Even if I don't it does seem to shorten the duration. I also don't eat peanuts (peanut butter) or chocolate. I think you're supposed to stay away from all nuts too but not sure.

    I spent the afternoon at my ONC office getting a port flush and exam.  Rather uneventful, I guess.  He didn't see the need to do any blood tests this trip, but I asked to have my Vit D level checked so will see how that comes back.  ONC also has started me on Femara and I am scheduled for a baseline bone density test next week.  Just threw the first Femara down the hatch so I am waiting to see what reaction I shall be having to this new little pill.  Anybody here have any experience with Femara?  I had been following the Arimidex thread as I thought that was going to be the choice, but guess I better start looking for some threads on Femara.

    I am flying to Seattle tomorrow morning and have been all worked up over having to deal with the TSA again.  I've been a victim of their body scanners and full pat-downs every time I have traveled in the last 3 months.  None of it is any fun. I have a pretty serious burn going on now from the end of radiation so here I go for more!  My ONC was pretty impressed when he saw my burns today.

    My DH will be just getting in from a trip in the AM and will be meeting me at the airport. He wants to escort me through security before he heads home to change clothes, repack and catch a later afternoon flight to Seattle himself.  After my past experiences with TSA, I may take him up on it.  Maybe you will be seeing me on the evening news!!

    Our son and his fiance flew from Charlotte, NC to Portland last Saturday just to sneak in a little extra adventure before joining the rest of us in Seattle tomorrow.  So we will all be together for a few days.  Our daughter just called to make sure that I knew that Seattle was getting a snow storm today.  She was trying to make her way home from work and I guess traffic was at a standstill.  Sure hope it moves on before we get there.

    Contrats to DonnaDio on your cancerversy too.  We sure do appreciate you veterans hanging around to offer your support to so many others going through treatments.  So wonderful to have you here.

    Everyone have a great Thanksgiving.  I will be trying to keep up with you all while in Seattle the rest of the week.

    Joan, hope your trip is not marred by unpleasant screening experiences.  I too had bad burns and the thought of someone rubbing against my underarm and chest is just a pianful thought.   Your picture  shows you to be fair, as I am.  Chemo was okay but rads were awful.  I give you credit for even flying!  I worked but did not travel.  Good luck to you and I hope it is all good.

    Had round 4 of chemo today :) Two more to go Wooohooooo!!!!! 12/13 and 1/3. There is light at the end of the tunnel. ;)  Then for my bi lateral mx. That should be tons of FUN!!! I hope everyone is doing as good as can be expected. :)

    Got a nasty virus on my computer that took just HOURS to fix. I just wanted to say a giant YEAH! WOOT,WOOT TO ADEY who gets to go forward on New Years eve as she is finished with her chemo. You did it my friend. : )

    Joan Have an amazing Thanksgiving. I too am expecting Ariidamex, but still months away so I will be watching your posts. And if I were flying, I would definately go bald and no foobs. At least they would feel bad about it. My husband was watching tv and saw a 7 year old get patted down and was crying. WTH???

    Zap, it just breaks my heart to hear stories like that. We send our kids to college and pray for safety, I cannot imagine what those parents are going through today. Prayers for them and all the college kids so far from home.

    Morning girls. Just a quick drive bye hi to wish each and everyone of you here a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday with your family and freinds. As I sat here reading everyone's post I became teary eye as each and everyone of you has been through so much with bc. This club is not one that we wanted to join but because of it I have made some wonderful friendships through the years. I am so truly blessed to have met many of you here and through your support and friendship it has made my dealing with bc a little easier.  

    I am thankful for each and everyone of you. You are strong women and will come throught this with courage, strength and endurance. 

    Happy Thanksgiving to all.....enjoy your day with your loved one's. Now off to the beach for some sun and relaxation. Wendy we need to post a sunny beach pic for all to enjoy.

    Quick post (why do my mornings off fly by at the speed of light?) just to wish everyone a Happy Cancerversary.   It's not a pleasurable road to take, but it's helped immensely by loved ones and the generosity of the supportive fellow survivors here in this thread.   I've always been an inconsistent poster, but I am always very grateful to every one of you for being here and sharing what's a sometimes painful and personal journey.    Knowing you're not alone when the madness and frustration gets to be too much is invaluable in bringing you back to the ground, and back to hope, and enjoying life.

    Speaking of enjoying life... I just RSVP'd for the Holiday party.  I'm so glad my work one was put on the following day.   Now I have 2 grab bags to buy.  I love grab bags! (Yes, I'm 12 Smile). 

    Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
