I had an extremely hard time with chemo and herceptin and when I finished treatment and was starting to feel up to exercising I had the flu followed by shingles followed by a severe sinus infection and more....I have lost a lot of muscle and have gained weight.I have fibromyalgia and I know exercise will help this too.I have an exercise bike and have started riding a few minutes each day and will work up.I would like to do some exercises with maybe a fitness ball  and/or resistance bands, but have no idea how to use them.I am hoping someone might  recommend a good book or video with gentle exercises. And some stretching exercies would be great too. Thanks!!

pandazankar ~ I think all of the things you've mentioned (ball, bands) are good.  Personally, I found walking to be the easiest exercise to ease into and stick with.  I started doing maybe a mile and a half or two, and have worked up to 4 or 5 miles or more, depending on the weather and how much time I have.  It's also been really helpful emotionally, giving me alone time to think about and process everything.

Hopefully others can recommend the books or videos you're looking for.  Did you know that there's research showing that exercise significantly reduces our risk of a recurrence?  That's what keeps me motivated even when it's inconvenient or an effort.    Deanna

I love to walk and do regularly during the warm months. It is more hiking than walking as I live in the middle of the woods. Deer season started today,so no walking for me until that is over. Our land is all posted, but that does not stop them.Plus we get bitter cold weather here in New York and so there is a lot of time I can't be outside.I was looking at a video called Walking Away the Pounds,it had good reviews on Amazon. You use light weights with this program.Have you ever heard of it? I do know that exercise is the best thing for our health in so many ways. With the FMS,I will have to be careful at first, plus I have a back injury that is limiting. So walking really is the best option for me.

pandazankar, do you like yoga?  Do you like swimming and have access to a pool?  The thing I was warned about, and I found to be quite true, is be careful to not push too hard.  I lost a lot of muscle mass and had a lot of muscle damage with the taxotere.  I was eventually told that my efforts to work out hard during and after chemo did more harm than good.  I was told gentle exercise, walking, yoga type exercises, and to not push past the point of fatigue.  It was hard, but, I gained more by backing off some than I did by pushing it.  They explained to me it isn't just simply deconditioning, the myopathy and neuropathy from the taxotere caused damage that needed time to heal.  Don't know what chemo regimen you had, but, my best advice is to do a little each day, and keep it at a level of enjoyment, add in some stretching each day.  Come join us on the exercise thread
