TCH: 4X or 6X?

My oncogene test also came back with a high risk of recurrence. I then went to the Mayo Clinic and chemo was recommended in addition to the radiation that already been prescribed.

Herceptin slows hair regrowth and AI's thin the hair. Maybe in 5 yrs we'll have good hair again!

I am not sure why they prescribe 6 as opposed to 4 or vice versa. I had 6tx TCH and it was very doable. I know that after 3 tx I had an u/s and the tumor was pretty much non detectable. I continued with the remaining 3 tx and had a mastectomy. I had no nodes involved and had two tumors quite close to each other both just over 1cm each. I am going to ask this question at my next onc. visit which is in a month.
-
I never asked my onc, but he had me do 10 TCH every 2 weeks. Then just Herceptin for the remaining part of a year. I don't know if the dose was lower or what, but 10 treatments had my butt dragging!

The Doctor said I was to do 6x, but after my last one (4tx) I am done. My body cant handle anymore. And as for naseau...no meds have worked for me. I feel okay about stopping at 4 with being node negative and margin negative.

I did 6 tx of TCH. I never thought to ask for 4. I think I was so freaked out about my three small children I would have done just about anything. Anyhow, just wanted to mention that the first four treatments were pretty doable. The last two I thought I was going to die. Recovery seemed to get harder and harder each treatment for me.

My onc put me on 6x with one year herceptin. I was diagnosed 1cm, grade III, HER2/neu positive. Positive margin (will do radiation following chemo). I've only had one session, and can't bear to think of going through 5 more. Chemo is not a walk in the park (for me) !

I was originally supposed to have 6 but had such bad SES that they stopped it at 5 and now I am on herceptin only. My oncologist told me they usually do anywhere from 4-6 and my tumor was very small, no nodes involved, so she felt 5 would do. Probably could have stopped at 4, but felt I could suffer that one more. I also got a second opinion and was told 4-6 of TCH would suffice before starting herceptin only.
good luck
Isabel
