zogo- If you look on the previous page there is a link to a surgeon named Dr. Jensen who is in the Santa Monica/Los Angeles area who is doing NSM on D cup women.  Maybe he is not the only one or maybe his office can refer you to a surgeon in your area that also takes larger breasted women?  I don't know why the surgeons won't at least try.  If you have NSM, and it fails, you lose the nipple.  But if you have a regular MX it fails for sure.  Anyway, you might try contacting that office and see if they have any referrals for you.  Or fly to LA and have it done!  Might be worth the extra effort to get the results you want.  After all, this is something you'll have to live with for the rest of your life.

Just diagnosed with PLCIS and discussed options with my BS today. Thanks to Kate33, I learned about skin and nipple sparing mastectomy an hour before my appt. Was pleasantly surprised that my dr said it's do-able on her end. Still have to speak with a PS to make sure on his end. Still deciding about everything.

Crescent5- So happy to learn you're able to have the nipple sparing.  I really do feel that this procedure goes a long way to helping us feel whole again afterwards.  Keep us posted on your progress.

For you and mollyinco- There is a great thread on here for those that have had or are having NSM.  It is titled "Nipple Sparing Mastectomy with immediate reconstruction".  Hope to see you both on there!  :)

Hi all. I am officially on the books- scheduled for skin/nipple sparing BMX on January 26th- and wanted to add my docs in case others are looking in the DC area.  BS: Shawna Willey; PS: Scott Spear.  Both are at Georgetown University Hospital.

8 weeks out now and my NSM and DIEP is FLAWLESS!

I cant say enough wonderful things about Dr Rebecca at the Mayo in Scottsdale, Arizona.

She has a wonderful bedside manner and does fantastic work!

I must add she had a lot of work to do. I had a breast reduction (went from a 38H to a 38D) August of 09. She was unsure how the NSM would work because there wasn't enough stats on someone like me having a breast reduction and then a NSM but said she would try it because she felt it was worth the effort. I am now about a 36C.

nora_az- So glad your PS realized that having a NSM is worth the effort.  I wish more BS/PS's would see the light!  Happy that everything has worked out so well for you.  I'm actually looking for a new PS, as I'm in the Phoenix area and mine was in Tucson, and have heard several women raving about Dr. Rebecca.  (In fact, you're the second one in 2 days!)  Thanks for sharing your resources!

    Thanks Kate!

I would highly recommend Dr Rebecca. I just saw her yesterday. I absolutely love her. She is so down to earth and you can really talk with her.

nora_az- That's good to hear!  Mayo just became in-network for us so I am definitely going to try to get in for a consult with her if she does revisions.

I also had this done by Dr. Clarfeld at Overlake Hospital - Bellevue, Wa -- 3 years ago.  Dr. Kimberly Lu in Issaquah was my surgeon for the reconstruction.  I highly recommend both!

Rnjules:  Dr. Michael K. Newman, at http://www.plasticsurgerysource.com.  Their phone number is 310-784-0644.  However, I think he can perform surgery only at Torrance Memorial Hospital or Little Company of Mary Hospital (both in Torrance).

Hi everyone. I have had quite the battle with Southern California Kaiser. I live in Ventura County and am BRCA1 Positive, no Cancer diagnosis. Kaiser has sent me to one MD in Ventura, who said that he did not feel comfortable doing Nipple Sparing on someone who is a D Cup, Kaiser had me set to see a Surgical Oncologist and plastics MD at Kaiser Woodland Hils......found out that they have not done Nipple Sparing....finally, I have a Referral to a Dr. Lee at Kaiser West Los Angeles, who does them, he is a Professor at USC and teaches Residents how to perform Reconstructive Breast Surgery. I am cautiously optimistic. Why should I have to loose the Nipples if I do not have Cancer??? This is quite a ride! Kaiser paid and suggested the BRCA Testing, is willing to pay for the Surgery, but is not trained in this procedure! My appointment is not until january 14th and my anxiety levels are rising. Thank You all for listening.

Hi, I noticed you're from Lexington.  Have you had breast reconstruction from this dr.?

Rnjules:  You shouldn't have to lose your nipples, period.

I only lost my left nipple because I had cancer in my left breast, and it was pretty close to the nipple.  My right breast did NOT have any indication of cancer, and they were able to save the nipple on that side.

Did you happen to get Dr. Lee's first name?  If so, and you have some time, maybe you can look him up on the Internet, and read more about the type of surgery he performs.

Sending thoughts of strength your way.  I'll check back to see how you are doing.

I had skin sparing, nipple sparing BMX by Dr. John Cox in Tampa with immediate reconstruction at time of surgery.

Amazingly. I woke up with minimal scarring, my own nipples and real looking breasts.  I have had little psych trauma because of this. I did not even have to go througth expanders.  The muscle stretching has been a trial, but not really that bad.  I am having a small amont of skin necrosis that we are dealing with.  But I cannot imagine any doing better than this team or me being better served than by this procedure.  It is a God-send for us compared to the mutilation of the past.

Nancy:  Wow!  You got immediate reconstruction with implants!  Lucky you!  I was told that wasn't an option for me, so I had to go the TE route.  Glad to hear you have minimal scarring and that the muscle stretching is bearable.

I had a bit of necrosis as well; the PS had to remove it, but amazingly, the skin on that side is cooperating and stretching very well.  So, hopefully no worries for you there.
