Okay, now that I recall past events, I recall that the holiday party lands on the same first Saturday in December as my husband's family party and here we go again. I could have sworn last year was at JanClares and I made it to that one. So, given that his family party is on the same date, and that IS HIS FAMILY, I may not be able to join you. They live in Aurora (hi Connie) so it is a trip from either place I start out (Northbrook or Schaumburg) I will see what I can do. If not, I will be thinking of all of you.
All this wonderful talk about food. Elf, when I went to the Korean restuarant I ate:
Stone plate Bi bim bop and soon tofu (that was the soup). The soon
tofu was Kim chi style, with beef.Lago, I go o Tiffins on Devon Avenue for India. Parking is terrible and I have been told that Tiffins "Westernizes" the food, but we still love it..
Back to work. I am subbing for a poor fellow who got sick on the way to school and I am showing a movie narrated by Morgan Freeman about penguins. Oh, they are so adorable.
Wendy, be careful!

Lago... get together in Chicago anytime is a great idea. I am so close to the Metra station in Crystal Lake and don't mind an excuse to go into the city. I have a follow-up appt at Northwestern with my BS and PS sometime in January.
Wendy.... so glad that you survived that icey road. I had the same thing happen to me once on a slippery, wet road. Full 360 and ended up in the wrong lane.... yikes!
Onward.... I may be ignorant...but what is a c diff test? Hope you feel better soon.
Snehlata.... where are you in India? One of my agents is visiting family in Mumbai right now. And my husband flies to Delhi at least twice a month. If I can ever talk myself into making that 15 hour flight, I will join him some day. One of my rad techs was a lovely Indian lady named Medieux. She tried to get me to do an Indian dance with her one day. I was not too good at it.
Well, let me know if anyone is getting together up here in the north woods this week. Hope that everyone is having a good day. Lago... treatment day?
Joan

Onward: I had opposite issues during chemo. Only thing I know about C diff is a friend had it after antibiotic therapy for a sinus infection. Good lucvk, I hope you feel better soon.
And Hello to every one else. I don't always post but try to tag along by reading everyday.
Looking forward to the holiday lunch.....Buddy if you are reading, my offer still stands to pick you up!

Joan: CarolynDSIC from our group had it and ended up being hospitalized for eight days. I spoke with her today and although she had the diarrhea, she was totally wiped out. She had to be put in a special seperate room because it is the "newest" thing to go around the hospital.
This is what mayo.com said: Clostridium difficile (klos-TRID-e-uhm dif-uh-SEEL), often called C. difficile or C. diff, is a bacterium that can cause symptoms ranging from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammation of the colon. Illness from C. difficile most commonly affects older adults in hospitals or in long term care facilities and typically occurs after use of antibiotic medications.
In recent years, C. difficile infections have become more frequent, more severe and more difficult to treat. Each year, tens of thousands of people in the United States get sick from C. difficile, including some otherwise healthy people who aren't hospitalized or taking antibiotics.
Mild illness caused by C. difficile may get better if you stop taking antibiotics. Severe symptoms require treatment with a different antibiotic.

Onward - I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I hope you get some answers soon. Have you ever had a Colonoscopy?
----------------------------------------
And...btw...after a BC dx, I've read that a Colonoscopy is recommended. Just fyi...

Good Afternoon, Ladies~!!
Susan- I thought your dh will try to make some Korean food and I was right... Can I come over for dinner??
Stone plate bi-bim-bop is very popular for American people and soon-tofu soup has more than one version.. We even have restaurant specialize in soon-tofu... omg, now I am craving for it... 3years ago when we got here, we found Korean restaurant name Miga59 in south part of Aurora but year later it disappeared and I don't know what happened.. It was very contemporary style and food was fantastic, you can have buffet or just order off from the menu.. Since then we haven't try any other Korean restaurant...WendyK- I am glad nothing else happened with black ice.. I had few experience spinning around with snow and freezen rain... What a coincidence, I was looking at that same Madden shoes at dsw last night.. For the Holiday party, I am thinking call the baby sitter and ask if she can come for few hours.. if the date was on 11th, I can totally go because my mil will be in town for Evan's birthday... oh well... we'll see what my dh has to say since we got only one car and I have to come home before 4:30pm.. lol
Lago- hope your treatment went well today..
Jackie- I love to hang out with people and have fun... I did that a lot when I was in college and I sure do miss it... lol
Gotta make dh's sandwich for work... What a cloudy day.. I want sunshine~~
I'll come back later tonight~!!
-
Wendy K: Black ice… yes this New Englander knows it well. Glad you're ok
Onward: Yes diarrhea is very dangerous. I have the opposite problem if I'm not careful. Good thing you are getting this check out.
Zap: somehow we always find free parking without much trouble Right around the block from Sabre. Us insider Chicagoans know all the places. ;-)
Joan: I'll see if January or February works for Chicago meet-up. The issue might be weather.

Details of my day
Got home around 3 today from chemo. 5 hours today... the pharmacy was backed up so a 1 hour delay. I did tell my onc that things weren't really working out with Nurse Ratched. Explained that there seems to be a communication problem and she's a bit uncooperative. Asked if would be OK if I just discuss SE at my office visits unless it's a real emergency or talk to the chemo nurse instead if drugs weren't needed. She seem fine with that. So either she knows Nurse Ratched is a problem or Nurse Ratched told the onc I was a problem. I did explain how I handed the thrush issue on my own.
My onc did discuss my osteopinia. She will be putting me on Zometa when I go on Armidex to protect my bones. She also said that it reduces recurrence of breast caner by 35% as well. She gave me print out of the study too: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa0806285
She was also concerned with my Vitamin D level because they find people with low D get more aches on Zometa. She's having my vD tested again (was tested last year) to be sure I'm getting enough with my supplements.
Lastly she said that the neuropathy I am experiencing is not the type that becomes permanent and therefore she is not worried. The only reason why I tend to agree is I'm 98% better by the end of week 3. This and the Zometa addition (35% reduces cancer reduction benefit might only mean an additional 3% but its still improves my stats) to my treatment made my day.

LauraGTO- Tomorrow (WED.) works for me! What time were you thinking?
-
Great!
If any of you would like to join us (Me, JanClare, Mandy, Joan - so far):
Lindy's Landing - Wauconda @ 12:15
-
Have fun at the Landing! I would like to do that one day too. Tomorrow I care for my grandchildren. I am doing a craft with Adeline and Laura that makes me think of you
And yes, Mandy, our doctor is so kind! It takes a special sort of person to remain kind with such a hard job. I am so happy he met your kids. He only met me and my DH and I immediately recognized a kind man.
Lago, you underestimate me and DH. Well you underestimate my DH. He can find free parking ANYWHERE in the city, but Devon Avenue for dinner before theater is a challenge. Ah, that is the rub....Tiffins on Saturday before theater....but I will look for Sabres.LOL
Jackie, hope all is well with the appointment today.
Susan

Laura and other lunch ladies, I would have loved to meet you at Lindy's Landing. Nice and close for me. I haven't been there for many years. Have to work though so maybe next time! Have a great lunch!
-
Mich - Maybe - since you're such a hard working, dedicated employee...your boss would let you let you take a long lunch? ; )
-
zap we park "around the block" We have never found a space right on Devon. ;-)
-
Lago, I am so very disapointed. Does that mean we dont get our bandana's????? I was so hoping to take out some aggression on nurse ratchet!!! just kidding. Glad you talked to your Onc.
You ladies enjoy your lunch. I will be thinking of you as I get chemo. Enjoy.
-
I will need to deal with her if I have SE that need meds and attention right away… granted my DH is going to deal with her now. He will put her in her place if needs be. We decided it would be better coming from him. If it came from me it could make matters worse.
I still need to design our logo/brand.
-
Onward - Best wishes with tomorrow's treatment...
-
Lauragto- So excited to see you ladies tomorrow.

-
Looking forward to lunch tomorrow. I mangaged to crash two computers today so I am due for a day out of the office! The Geek Squad is working on it.

Good morning friends,
I could not decide about the quote so I put a whole little group in that related to the same thing....know thyself. A difficult one eh???? We all think well of ourselves -- the trick is to stop before we OVER-DO it and become just a mite insufferable.
Thanks for the thoughts, and well-wishes. My appt. isn't actually until Friday. Will make for a long day, but not nearly as long as if I went to the House of Hope where I've usually been found on Fridays lately.
Glad to hear some of you newer ladies can make lunch and meet JanClare. Even though I've not met her myself ( I've not met most of my friends here ) I know she is fantastic and you will enjoy her company very much.
How are things going Buddy? Hope you are getting it all together again.
Lago -- glad you have a plan in place for your nasty nurse. Did someone else here say they did not do well with her? If it is a nurse you'd like to think.....maybe it is just a personality clash with you and her.......and the rest of her patients would not have to suffer. Maybe she is nearly burned out .....who knows. I do think being an Oncology nurse would/could be a strain for many of them.
Cool, but sun is out today which is going to make it much more tolerable. Still dealing with those leaves. Don't think I'll do much outside today.....though deck furniture still have to be stored.
Hope you are all going to have a delightful day -- whatever you do. Hang in there Carolyn.
Hugs, Jackie
-
Jackie I have heard several complaints about this nurse. No it's not just me. One of the gals left this place partly because of Nurse Ratched.
I'm sure the onc could read between the lines. Saying there is a communication issue should be a clue. I'm pretty easy to understand and lets face it my business is communication (graphic design). She knows I'm not a PITA patient.
-
Hi ladies--I met MakMak and Mr. MakMak last night. Very nice to put a face to the name! They shared some pix of "Gabs" Adorable!
-
Good morning...
Yes, I attended a metastatic conference last night and met English and a few other ladies from the boards.. it was nothing new as far as info, but hearing the speaker whos diagnosis and properties are exactly like mine and has been NED on herceptin for 5.5 years was worth the 1.5 hr drive!!!
I so wish I could make lunch.. especially SUSHI.. (yeah I had some yesterday for lunch.. but I am not sure Lago which is the second Jewish Food.. It may be a tie between Chinese and Sushi in our house)..
Off to Herceptin in a bit.. of course woke up and Gabs has a blood shot eye.. yesterday just some vessels and today it looks like some burst.. of course her one year pics are on Sat!! perfect timing as always..
Enjoy the day...
Onward - good luck today in treatment!

Wendrew - I am petrified of BLACK ICE. And I am so happy you were not injured. Thank goodness AND wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeew! I had a case of brown ice...walked on my deck in my slippers and slipped on the thin layer of ice. I was able to stop my "fall", but it was quite scary.
mak - Best wishes today with Herceptin. As for Gab's eye...don't fret - they'll just "PHOTOSHOP" the blood shot eye.
-------------------------------------------------
Speaking of ice...I would not mind NEVER having to deal with it again!
dh applied for a job in South Carolina. A fortune 100 - very prestigious company. They would relocate us - take care of all of our relocation costs, housing, etc. I WOULD WELCOME IT - in a NY second. Fingers crossed!
Looking forward to lunch today. Will certainly miss those who are unable to join us. Have a safe and happy day!
-
Thank you Jet Blue! They had a one day airfare sale yesterday, that caught my brother's attention.... he is coming out on Nov 30th, bringing with him my dear Aunt, who is a 47 year breast cancer survivor, and just what I need right now! By then I will be (I hope) fully recovered from surgery, and their visit will be just what I need to fill up that last week before I go back to the office full time.
I have been reading a lot but not posting much. I am one week post BMX/TE, and starting to get my strength back... ventured out for a quick drive to drop the kids at school, DH to the train, and then felt awful the rest of the day, so guess I wasn't quite ready for that yet. Time for patience.
For those of you meeting for lunch today, have a great time. I wish I could make the 12/4 get together to meet some of you in person, my son has a concert that day, which is likely to take up the same time slot.
Good luck onward, on your treatment today!
-
makmak I must admit: In chemo training I was told there were no restrictions on diet because of the nuelasta shot. I didn't say "oh even Chinese food?" I asked "You mean I can eat Sushi!"
My family has been eating Sushi since 1978. My dad has a Japanese friend who introduced us to it. We went to then the only place in Boston. Our family was the only non Japanese people there. We also order liked Jews… you know the super-sized boat ;-)
