Thanks Leia, Kristycs, Lisametoo and others for sharing your stories and your families stories,  and for being the voice of reason when others who have no real knowledge or experience with this protocol try to detract based on distorted and half-facts. I agree with kristycs:  Saying there is no proof this protocol works is ignorant-- especially when you have people right in your face who have not had any chemo or radiation, and who are not selling anything, telling you it works.  We have repeatedly listed the site where you can find a whole community of people, worldwide, who are living, breathing examples this protocol works.  Call it anecdotal proof if you like, but there is more to "proof" than a lab test.  There is no lab test that proves God exists but we witness and believe in His blessings everyday.

@Lindasa, buy whole, raw flax seeds and grind then with an inexpensive coffee grinder. They go rancid around15 minutes after they are ground, so any pre-ground seeds you buy are already rancid, no matter how the company seals them.  They taste better when you grind them yourself, too!  You'll love it!

I know I've posted on this thread before but I'm still fuzzy on why it's necessary to use a mixer.  I first started mixing ground flaxseeds with yogurt after reading Dr Northrup's book on women's health.

Nowadays, I make a mixture of ground seeds/nuts recommended by Dr Sanda Cabot aka the liver doctor, which is 3 parts flaxseed, 2 parts sunflower seeds, 1 part almonds.  This is what I mix with yogurt with a bit of honey.  Not sure if this 'counts' as budwig, but I feel pretty darn good about having this mix in my food every day.  I even got my mom off the yoplait cherry yogurt she was eating every day and have her on plain yogurt with the nuts and honey.

From Healingcancernaturally dot com:  "This oil is combined with protein (or more precisely, sulphurated amino acids** such as liberally found in quark/cottage cheese) to allow the highly unsaturated fatty acids to become water-soluble, thus bypassing the need for an (often) diseased or impaired liver to break down the unsatured fat by its own efforts. Quote: "The lipotropic protein connections, e.g. Cystein, as they are found in ... cottage cheese or nuts are able to make water-soluble the ...highly unsaturated fatty acids in seed oils. And that is what matters. When you mix together ... cottage cheese and linseed oil in your blender the fat becomes water-soluble" and thereby immediately available for use by the body."

Thoroughly mixing the oil and cottage cheese changes the ingredients to a different substance, and allows it to be more effectively be delivered directly to the cells.

Here are three of the best sites on the internet with complete information on the Budwig Protocol--

Download a free Budwig Diet Guide http://www.budwigcenter.com/

There is enough information on the net so one never needs to go to a "Budwig Clinic" or buy anything except the right foods.

@ Althea-- I don't know if I gave the answer you were looking for..

You don't have to use a "mixer," so to speak-- but you must use something that will thoroughly mix the cottage cheese and flax oil such as an immersion blender or a blender.  A mixer will do if you don't have either one of those.  A wire whisk is hard to use in this case.

Thank you stef.  I just remembered that I tried the cottage cheese, flaxseed and flaxseed oil for a week or more in july of 08.  I started tweaking my diet toward better choices in 06 and really picked up the pace in 08.  I'd been feeling better starting in april that year, was feeling better and better, until I did the week of budwig and I seriously tanked.  I always have a lot of variables at any given moment, so I don't want to discourage anyone from trying budwig, but just in my own experience, I did tank after doing the budwig as the most recent variable.  By tanking, I mean the fatigue that was finally subsiding a bit came back with a vengeance literally overnight and stayed.

Nowadays, I've scaled back most of my dairy consumption.  Yogurt is the final frontier, and I'm wavering on whether to say adios.  I do love my yogurt with flaxseeds and honey!  ymmm   So regardless of what budwig protocol recommends, I'll just have to hope that a spoon is good enough.

althea, if you were eating flax oil and cottage cheese and mixing it with a spoon, it would probably cause you to be sleepless, which might be related to your evening fatigue.  The diet recommends you eat all your proteins (and the cottage cheese is high in protein) before 3 p.m.  This is because the high level of protein won't let you fall into a deep sleep.  It's better when you are properly mixing with a blender-- the flax oil and cottage cheese become a different food and that protein effect isn't as strong.

I'm not sure about the budwig surpressing hormones, but I am also refusing Femara as I felt 90 years old taking it. But what I am taking is the natural form of Femara made from cruciferous vegetables , it is called indole-3-carbinol. Look it up on the internet.

I was just diagnosed with stage 2 ILC. I started eating the FOCC as soon as I got a call-back on my 3-D mammogram, but before I was officially diagnosed. I was quickly scheduled for surgery and instructed to quit eating fish oil. So I quit the flax oil too. But I am still eating 4-5 T of ground flaxseed daily and will go back on the FOCC as soon as I recover from surgery. I definitely share your belief in the healing power of food. Hope you're still doing well!

There is very recent highly credible scientific research showing that soy milk, flax seed and apple pectin all fight breast cancer. Check out nutritionfacts.org and search for these topics. This site is operated by Michael Gregor, MD. Dr. Gregor and his staff work for a nonprofit organization. They sift through tons of current research to distill the facts which are thenpresented in short entertaining videos. They also provide transcripts and references for each video. Excellent information.

Hi there, did you also go on the Budwig diet for Her2+? I have recently been diagnosed and would like to try it. I'm afraid to do chemo.
