Options

I was just wondering if anyone in Iowa is on this board and would like to connect? I live in Waterloo and thought it would be nice to have women in this area that have delt with the Drs. here. If you want drop a line. Jamie

i am in ames Iowa. I went to my doctor for the annual mammogram and she was terribly in providing me the bad news.I promptly went to des moines where I went to mercy which was great. Instead of the usual 15 minute physicals, the doctors met with me for a full hour. I was thrilled that they spent the time and provided me with the information. being over 60, i qualified for mamosite radiation and only mercy provides that... so if I would have stay in ames- I would have seen a regular surgeon (not a breast specialist) and never had the opportunity for a one week radiation protocol. Besides the fact that it is a 45 minute drive, I am more than happy to make the dirve for the much better care.

not all doctors are alike. i prefer the specialist and ones who have done this over and over again.

my prognosis is good.. so I expect to go back for regular check ups for 5 years

Yes and a fairly recent transplant who is looking to exchange info on breast cancer centers in the state as well as docs...I live in Des Moines and am currently at Katzmann so was glad to see your references.  Who was your surgeon and radiologist if you don't mind my asking?

    Hi guys,

Glad to see some Iowans.  I live in Johnston and have done all my treatment at the Mayo clinic in Rochester, MN.   I was diagnosed in 2007, and a recurrence in 2009.  I am actually sitting in a hotel room in Waterloo right now dualgate. My daughter has a gymnastic meet tomorrow morning at the Sullivan Bros Convention Center.  Small world.  I do know some surgeons in Des Moines cgeo, and some survivors that had their treatment done in DSM.
