help with side effect
You ladies seem to know lots of secrets about helping with these side effects. My Dr. told me yesterday we are not doing my last Taxotere treatment. I had severe symptoms..I only hope they will reverse themselves. I had my last treatment 8 days ago and I have a VERY itchy rash on my hands thats driving me crazy and its seems to be getting worse instad of better. Has anyone had this rash and have any suggestions that might help with this itch?? I cant believe its 8 days and the mouth sores, aches, rash and numb fingers are not improving yet..This is scarey..Thanks Elena

Sorry I don't have that SE but I'm only on tx 2 (taxotere/carboplatin/herceptin) of 6. I too worry about not finishing all 6. I'm already struggling with neuropathy.
As far as the numbness the first tx it took about a week. This time it's been almost 2 weeks since my heel went numb and it comes and goes but then the pads of my feet started to burn on Sunday. That comes and goes too. My next tx is Tuesday.
What does you doctor say about this rash?

elena1, My Dr. stopped my Taxatere after the 1st treatment. That was 2 months ago. My SE's re finally almost gone. I am seeing the Onc. today, and will see where we go from here. Has you Dr. given you anything for the rash? I got a rash as well, and was given some cream for exema. I have exema anyway, but it was a different type of creme she gave me.

Elena, I didn't have the hand rash with TC, but I've read a few accounts here on BCO of others who did, and in each case, the Taxotere was discontinued. If you haven't already, you might want to try doing a search (search box far upper right) for Taxotere & rash, and see if you can find some of those older posts.
As far as what to do for the itch, did you ask your onc if you can use Benedryl? I'm also wondering if an old fashion oatmeal soak might provide some relief? And for the neuropathy (numbness), the nutrient B6 can help with that. I used 50 mg. and it definitely made a difference. For the mouth sores, are you using Biotene mouthwash? It should help.
Good luck, and sorry you're having a hard time, but glad your onc isn't giving you any more Taxotere. Deanna

Sorry I missed seeing this post. I am one of the ones who had a serious reaction to taxol. My hands and feet turned a bright shade of red and I had the rash up my arms. They itched like crazy too. I was in the hospital with my last taxol for 4 days. I got steroids for the rash and used an expensive prescription cream. Sorry that name want come to me now. darn chemo brain. My neuropathy got worse for at least a month after stooping the chemo. Hope you are not so unlucky. I think I was much worse off than you are. Wish you the best and if you need to talk pm me.
Oh and I think it is funny. My Onc. said he could not call it an allergic reaction. However when I went for my pre-op visit for my hysterectomy, the hospital had put it on my records that I was allergic to taxol. Gee I tried to tell them I was sick as a dog.
