Oncotype DX Test Results

Hello, I'm trying to understand my test results. My score is 16. My risk of distant recurrence with a hormone blocking medication is 10%. What would my risk of recurrence be if I did not take any meds? Would it double?

I am overweight and a big girl. And I understand that estrogen is stored in fat cells. Would medication really help me at this time? Yes, ideally I would like to lose weight. But the place I live at does not have a very healthy menu. So I am concerned with this. My onc told me it isn't known if medication would help someone who is overweight since estrogen is stored in fat cells.

It often refers to CI. What does CI stand for?

Also my onc said he wouldn't be doing scans very often. He just says to watch out for symptoms. But it seems that if I have symptoms then it is too late and I would have metastatic cancer.

So what do you think? Thanks a bunch.

    Hi, there,

    I had a very similar oncotype dx result as you. If you take hormone blocking medication, such as Tamoxifen, you have a 10% chance of distant recurrence (metastasis) which means a 90% chance of no metastasis. I don't think that weight impacts the effect of the medication, or at least I've never heard of that.

    CI stands for confidence interval. It's just a statistical thing that has to do with the results of the Oncotype being 95% certain.

    Hello,

    My oncotypedx was a 9 and I had a 1 cm PILC, lumpectomy, rads and tamoxifen.  Now it is four years to the day later and I have 6 new tumors in the same breast.  I will have 3 kinds of chemo, masectomy and removal of all my breast skin on the left side where the tumors are.  I am very unhappy with the oncotypedx score....it only gave me 4 years.
