I am 51 years old and have discovred a good sized lump in my right breast. Two years ago i had to have four tumours removed from my left Breast all were solid but thankfully were benighn

My Mother had breast cancer in her fortities and had to have a mastectomy due to the advance stage of the cancer. My Doctor has told me this puts me at high risk for cancer.

This lump feels different from the others before in my Left Breast .I am cocerned and worried.I just got engaged and am frightned of having to tell my finace .He is 41 and has not gone through this with anyone before.

Should i be worried?

Deannie, obviously it's impossible to guess what's going on from a brief description, even if we were doctors, which we're not.  But my first thought is that if you were carefully screened 2 years ago, it's questionable whether "a good sized lump" would appear in that time frame.  For most of us, breast cancer takes many years to grow to the point where it's detectable either with imaging or by self exam.  Also, the fact that you had 4 prior benign lesions may also point to this one being benign.  But definitely get it checked out ASAP.

And as far as your fiance goes, I understand your fear, but if he's the kind of man worth committing the rest of your life to, I would hope that he loves you enough not to run away from a health problem (hopefully just a scare).  Would you, if positions were reversed?      Deanna

Finding any kind of lump in one's breast is always stressful.  Keep in mind that 80% of all lumps are benign. Please call your doctor and get it checked out asap.   Ask for a referral to a breast specialist.
