weight gain
I have had two treatments of tch and have gained 10 pounds, what is up with this, I was kinda looking forward to the "chemo diet" and some weight loss. Also, I have this headach that is in the back right of my head (oppisite of my surgery) that won't go away, any Ideas.

Hi diffrro, I know what you mean about the weight gain, I too,had 4 treatments of tch and have gained over the period if 4 months, 24lbs!! Had to go out and buy bigger everything, think that wasn't depressing. Now I am at the stage of all this crap I don't even care, I can wear big baggy sweatshirts all winter long lol. I know when this is all over with, i will get back to excersing and eating better, the comfort food just taste so good. Maybe in spring, we could team up on line here and lose the extra lbs together, well off to work ttyl

I know I can put on about 5 lbs in water gain but I lose it 2-3 days later. I have only had 2 tx and put on a few pounds but it's my own fault. I'm eating more.
Weight gain can be from lack of exercise or if you are put into chemo-pause you might gain 5-8 lbs partly because your metabolism will slow down. I would seriously write down everything you're eating. I know my appetite has increased and I am eating more.

I didn't gain any weight during my treatment - but I've heard that it's not unusual. The steroids they give you make your hungry.
Lots of people gain weight on tx so be careful.

Yep gained weight here too with TCH a total of +/-15lbs in the last year. My onc had to up my Herceptin does because of it (bleh)
I am having trouble exercising right now so I cut back my eating ....holding steady at 187lbs with 3 more Herceptins to go!!

I just had my third TCH and I am up close to 15lbs. I try hard not to complain, because despite the side effects and the terrible taste in my mouth, I know that this chemo is going to save my life - BUT, to be completely frank, I feel like a bald, hard-boobed, fat person and its making me insane! I know now isn't the time to try to go on a diet, but i'm wishing there was at least a small break for those of us who are doing this chemo-thing! Once this is over does the weight start to come off naturally or are we going to have to work twice as hard?

I gained 23 lbs! its very common.

ive had 3 treatments and gained 9pounds. I can feel it- everything is tight on my belly- ab feels so bloated. | am eating a lot more. I cant stand water- my tongue is all messed up, so i have to eat things with strong tastes, eg.....chips/chocolates..........fries LOL
ok i dont have to- but thats what i crave- i cant taste anything else.
I will get back into shape after xmas, cant be bothered now!! but having said that, i cudnt exercise now anyways, im out of breath, tired, achy all the time.
thank heavens i have one more chemo left and im done with this crap!!! LOL

Well, you're not alone, I think I've gained ten pounds in two months. AND, I exercise about an hour a day which is more than I had been doing the months before diagnosis because my swollen breast hurt too much to do anything aerobic.
Some of it has gone to muscle - I actually have a butt again, which is refreshing - but I am definitely thicker around the waist.
However...the holiday season is coming, and I'm gonna eat what I'm gonna eat this year. Just the way it is. I will spend the early months of the year being a good girl and being more careful and such.
I think you normally gain weight during chemo and if it were summer, I'd be fighting a better fight against it.

I feel exactly how you feel heathermcd, and to tell you the truth, all food seems like comfort food right now!! I know I am not obese like I sound, but any weight gain does havoc with my arthritic joints. I wish I knew also about if the excess weight will come off naturally or have to work out 24/7. UGH!!

I posted this on the thread "The worst things people have said to/about you", but thought it might be also appropriate here:
Today when I got back from lunch I was walking into my office and a coworker stopped me and said "Hey, Heather! You have gotten SO BIG since the last time I saw you! Congratulations!" and pointed to the belly! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so I just said "Thanks" and walked off. I guess I know where i'm carrying most of my weight now. Think i'll be starting a diet. Immediately.
