hi im 29 and ive been goin to a breast clinic for the past year and a half i had a lump under my arm which was a swollen lymp node they biopsied this and it was a fibroid then they called me back for a mamogram which was clear then when they did an ultrasound of the ull breast there was a lot of lumps which they did a biopsy on on of them which was a fibroid again so i went back for a check up and the lump under my arm is nearly gone which the doc said was a bit strange as fibroids dont go away so ive to get another mamogram but also an mri as i have a strong family history .iam just confused as to why ive toget the mri and why has the lump in the lymph node gone i also still have brownish discharge which has never been given a reason as to why this happens.if anyone could help or give any information i would really appreciate it thanks

I know MRI's are more accurate than mammograms.  MRI's also give off no radiation like mammograms do.  Good luck, and I hope they continue to find no cancer.

MRI's are a good choice especially if you want to see further into what is going on. I think your Dr is concerned that this is something does not normally happen and wants to look into it further. She is just being cautious and I think that is a wise decision. Now is the best determination to get done to the facts. It obviously is acting strange. So it is an area of corcern. When it was just fibroids there was not an alarming concern.  I would be happy that my Dr wants to take this course of action. Hope this helps I wish you the best and hope it remains cancer free.

An MRI will help clarify what is going on in your breast.  Take the time to read all the  easy to understand topics at the top of this page. You will find info on the various tests and procedures and their benefits.  MRIs are easy procedures but the machine is noisy so the tech usually plays music to help cover the clicking sound.

With your strong medical history in conjunction with your breast issues, it is almost surprising that they waited this long to order a MRI.  Mammograms are not as effective with young women with dense breasts.  I am 52 and my breast tissue is still dense, so my screenings include a MRI.  The MRI is more sensitive and may help them determine if anything more sinister than a fibroid is going on.  If there is a cancer, MRI's tend to find them much earlier than mammograms.  Hoping for continued benign reports for you.

If you are at all claustrophobic or are an anxious person, several of my friends do take a anti-anxiety med before the test. I have had several MRIs and have never required any med to get me through.  Do ask that they have plenty of pillows to cushion any pressure points as you are on your stomach and have to lie completely still for a long period of time.  Good luck.

Hello there.  I have a very aggressive form of breast cancer but my oncologist doesn't believe in any MRI follow ups.  Have only had mamogramm and ultra sound after completing chemo and radiation.  Do you receive MRI treatment as the normal in the States.  Am very interested to hear if anyone else has had MRI in the year following surgery etc etc.  Regards

thank you for this information it is very usefull. In your opinion do you think she ordered this mri because she may have been a bit concerned as it might be months before i have the mri so ill be anxious

Hi, my cancer was not found at all by the mammo or the US...only revealed by an MRI and it was 1.5 cm.  Not large by any means, but large enough.

You should have both if you are at high risk.  Mammos can detect calcifications that an US or an MRI would not, an US can tell if it is a fibroid or merely a fluid filled cysts and thus non cancerous.

An MRI shows everything.  The only thing it cannot find are calcifications.

Thus, the combo is the safest thing to do.  Ideally they should be spaced 6 months apart, with self checks monthly and every six months by a professional, either an oncologist, your GP or your OB/GYN as you want continual monitoring by different drs.

Good luck.  I suspect your dr. ordered the MRI to do this six month type of follow up continual exam.

    xoxo

    Amanda HI!

(I also replied to you in another thread)

From what you posted nothing can really be suggested. Try not to read anything in what was said or the doctor coming in.

Wait for an official report, offical word. That is hard I know, but it really is the only way to know definitively.

Ask to get a copy of the reports if you want. More can be understood from that then from anything else

It's hard I know. It's important to wait for the official reports. Did they say anything to your personally? If I understand you right, you are going for an MRI right?

Hi - get the MRI and don't fight it.  I've had to fight for one and I've already had breast surgery. I want to know what is going on in there, and you should know, as well. MRI is the way to go - even if nothing is wrong, you will always have a baseline to compare future films to - lucky you!

    Amanda,

Im sorry that your family has already had to deal with cancer when it comes to your brother.

I wouldnt worry about those "streaky lines" you saw.

Im guessing (only guessing) that because of your age (29) and your family history is why you are being sent for an MRI. The younger a woman is, the more dense the breast tissue is and many things just wont show up on a mammo or ultrasound.

Hang in there. Keep asking questions if you have them
