Microcalcifications after lumpectomy

I need some words of encouragement today.  I've been through a lot since my diagnosis on 01/25/10.  I had 3 surgeries, my ER/PR status changed from + to -.  Finished chemo in Sept and now am in the middle of rads.  Today my surgeon called me about the results of baseline mammo I took last week before rads started.  Mammo shows calcifications.  She said after surgery calcification can form around the scars.   Since I had clean margins she doesn't seem very concerned.  The radiologist recommends MRI for further testing.  Since I am in the middle of rads she needs to talk to my rads onc.  Ughh, will it ever end?  It's never simple for me.  I've been telling myself rads is the final step and soon it will all be over.  Now with this calcification issue I don't know what to think.  Has anyone's mammo after surgery showed calcifications?

Batoday..yes I had 4 of them in my "good" breast. 3 were round but one was rod shaped.  They were in a row.  Had a sterotactic biopsy and it turned out that they were benign and determined vascular.

They had been there before in a previous mammo (I wasn't aware that they were there).

I also was going through rads at the time.had rads then went to my biopsy..plus freaked out for 2 weeks because my BS was on vacation..not a fun time at all.

My bs didn't seem concerned much either but because of my"history" I had the biopsy.

Remember that calcifications are very, very common and most of the time they are benign.

It so upsetting to have this happen during your treatment. I know exactly how you are feeling.

I had a follow-up mammo three weeks ago (1 year post diagnosis).  Calcifications showed up near my lump scar line. They're following me, recommended another mammo in 6 months, although I'm scheduled for an MRI in January anyway.
