Oatmeal in smoothie

Yes!  I found a smoothie recipe in which you put 1/2c. of oatmeal in the blender to grind it up (before any other ingredients so it gets powdery).  Then add 1c. of liquid, some frozen fruits of your choice, a little stevia and vanilla. It makes a great, thick frozen smoothie with the fiber of oatmeal.  I use frozen bananas and strawberries mostly.   And for anyone who is as clueless as I was.....you should peel the banana before you freeze it, lol.Laughing

Hi angicpa.....This is a stupid question but what kind of oatmeal do you use?

    Does it become like powder?

Uncooked oatmeal how does it taste like?

I used to use different things but I never had it with oatmeal.

Can you please write brand name or store name?????

    Thanks

    Sheila♥

    Sheila,

Sorry for the delayed reply - I had my granddaughter all weekend and it was wonderful.  The oatmeal brand doesn't matter. Just get the quick-cook kind that takes one minute to cook.  I think that's because something in the processing to make it quick to cook also makes it absorb liquids well. When you blend it, it does become a powder. Be sure to blend it first in a dry blender to get it to a powder.  It won't "powder up"  if anything else is in the blender.  I don't taste the oatmeal in the smoothie, the strawberries are pretty strong taste. Other combinations with milder flavors, or people with better taste buds might notice it, but I don't.

    angicpa....thanks for the information.

Since only a blender is needed I'm all set up.

I eat oatmeal and fresh fruit daily.

This will be a great thing for me.

    Thanks again.Wink

Oatmeal is great in a smoothie! You can also try something called cream of buckwheat, which is gluten free. It's just buckwheat groats ground down to a form that you'd use for hot cereal. Bob's Red Mill is one brand. I like Pocono brand, but I know not all areas carry it.
