I am in the middle of tests and scans trying to rule out the possibility of IBC. It is such a LONG waiting process from one test to the next, I am very frustrated by how long it takes to get in for the next test and get results. I would like to hear some of your stories about symptoms, time to diagnosis, how you were diagnosed, whether or not you got 2nd opinons, etc. I think it would help me know what to expect, what questions to ask, etc. I really feel like I am in unchartered waters here. I don't want to be a hypochondriac--I certainly don't want to have this horrible disease, but I want to find an answer to my symptoms. I have been trying to find out what is wrong with me since Sept.12th, but everything moves at a snails pace...

Thanks for any input :-)

In the Bay area, my doctors are familiar with ibc.  I did have to wait 3 weeks before getting into my obgyn as I thought I had a bug bite.  Even though my obgyn did not think anything of it; she did send me the following week for mammogram & they brought me back the same day for an ultrasound.  From then on I was quickly scheduled for biopsy and chemo from an oncologist in the area.  There was no question with me because besides ibc, I also had a 3.5cm tumor in the same breast.  I even have bone mets which are stable now and will have a bilateral mastectomy early next year.

Well I think Im in the same boat as you workingmom... Mine started with a severe black and blue bruise! Even had like a blood spot it looked like kinda when older folks get a skin tear on my breast.

I did have trauma to my breast though. But after the bruise went away I found a big lump there and where that patch of blood spot was its now a red patch on my breast. I had a mammogram and ultrasound, they said it was a hematoma and could take up to a year to dissolve as breast tissue is really sensitive. I insisted on an appt. with a breast specialist and waiting for that now anyday.

Good luck! Lets stay in touch!
