Whitedove, the Omegas I take are from Whole Foods and they don't give you the "fishy burps" like most do. I hate that! The brand name is..Nordic something (I can check when I get home, but I do know that it begins with Nordic). I take 2 a day but in general I am a salmonholic. I never really read anything about it being bad out there, except for the farm raised. You wanna shoot for wild. I gotta tell you though that I swear these 100% cocoa butter sticks work. They are super super cheap at the drug store and I feel that my scars are already looking better. I do put a load of it on though. It warms up in your hand. My dog keeps wanting to lick me...

whitedove:
Valuable information about scar healing and creams - thanks for sharing. I'll check those out.

Ok, just received my Tropol-Active-S! Going to try it out tonight!
-
I know everyone has different favorite products for skincare, but I loved the way Recovery Cream worked during radiation treatment and I still use it daily.
-
Hi ladies, I've been out of touch lately. Hope you are all doing well.
I have been using the Tropol Active S for awhile now on the scars and other scars on body. Has anyone else noticed that it seems to cause the scars to turn darker? I thought it was making it darker so I put some on a scar on my leg and it turned dark purple. I'd be interested to know if you are having good results? I don't know why I'm bothering anyway right now as my implant surgery is coming up and I'll have new scars. Thanks for all the input and advice. Best wishes. -
Hummingb1rd- The Tropol Active S seemed to darken my scars at first and then they lightened. One reason to use it, even though someone might have another surgery coming up, is it seems to not only lighten the scar but to flatten it as well. It seems like that would make it that much easier for the new incision to heal smoothly.
Off the subject of scars, always check with your PS before massaging. If your PS used Alloderm during surgery you should be careful to only massage only the incision site. According to my PS, it can take up to a year for your body to fully integrate the Alloderm with your own tissue. Massaging where the Alloderm is placed can cause it too absorb unevenly.
-
Hummingbird - I am trying to figure out if there is a color progression in the healing process. Mine turned bright red at first and that worried me. I assume, however, that that is an indication of blood flow (which is what we want) as the tissue does it's thing to rapidly cross thatch to heal. The redness dissipated and now they are much more even in tone. I am still using the Scar Away and will use them until I run out, (bought 3 boxes), at which point I will probably switch to a cream. I do have comparison scars, though, from my SNB, which are keloided and which I am trying to heal even though I started late on them.
Has anyone had luck with flattening keloids?
-
ladies-where do you buy the tropol active s cream? I would like to try. Also my scars are very thick and raised. It lookes like he really stitched it up good, but do you recommend for raised scars.
Kate33-good point on the alloderm. I wondered why my Dr said not to massage, he did use alloderm. I am going to ask in at the next visit again.

Hi, Sweetie. The Tropol Active-S can be bought on-line from a web site called tropolactive.com. If you enter the promo code "facebook" you will get about 30% off. I haven't received mine yet, but corresponded with one of their employees about a similar problem to what you have and he was very helpful. I'm really hoping it will help my radiation-damaged scar.
-
here' s one, and it has met with success for me, good old fashioned olive oil. I put it on all my scars and one year out they are all all white, non raised and healed up.
I continue to use it and now I'm putting it on older scars, stretch marks, and my face! I read that Sophia Loren uses it, and she looks v good (PS helps, of course)
-
I have been using the Tropel-Active Scar lotion on my irradiated breast for 2 weeks. It was a large scar from August 2009, and the Tropel is making it softer and smoother, I am truly impressed.
-
Thanks loonlover for the Facebook hint on savings. $10.49 savings verses the $3.50 saving from referring physician. Free shipping!!!!.....I just ordered mine for a total of $24.46
The only scars I am having a problem with are the ones that extended my back LD scars. It has been 15 months ago and they are still red and somewhat raised...one more than the other one. My PS grafted some skin from these areas because of excess skin that I hated. He made my areolas with this skin. All my scars have faded well except for these. I think it is because of where they are located. Using my arms (which I have to do LOL) I am constantly pulling those scars and sometimes I feel a little pain. The stretching I am doing for my tight bra syndrome really stretches them and I also do strength training. I am hoping that this Tropol Active-S scar cream will do the trick...if not, I give up....I cannot stop stretching for my tightness (it is helping) and I am not going to stop strength training so I may have to live with red scars.
Hello Annie ..... I did not see your post until after I placed my order.....Sophia Loren is beautiful.....I will try your suggestion about the olive oil until my cream comes in. I will also slather it all over my body if it will make me look like Sophia when I am her age....LOL....
Great news karen ..... I love the positive comments about this product...maybe there is hope for me.

i have tons of scars but i see them as my badges of courage and my constant reminder that i am a survivor....
-
whitedove- I had a raised scar on the upper part of my breast from my original biopsy. I've been using the Tropol on that. It hasn't faded the scar but it is no longer raised. My incision scars seem to be so much flatter as well.
-
Kate,
That is good news. In my opinion, the sooner and more consistently the scars are treated, the better the outcome. Thanks for the tip!
-
Ok guys...so I recieved the Tropol cream last Friday. I have been doing my massages for about a half an hour with 100% cocoa butter while watching all the baseball games (GO GIANTS) and then after that is done, I follow that up with the Tropol cream. My scars are looking really good all of a sudden. I just checked them out and they are not red and are flat. I don't know if it is the combo of the two things or what but I am going to keep going!
-
HollyHopes: Good for you. Sometimes I think I worry too much about these scars, but then I get days where I don't even think about them. Having said that, I'll still start using the Tropel Active S when they have sufficiently healed, and try to be happy with the results.

girls- I have to try that tropol active S cream. My scars are sooo thick and raised. I'm only about three weeks out from surgery so don't know much time it takes for them to flatten out on their own of if they well. The area seems so thick and almost like a cord. He must have really stitched it good, but they don't look so good!

Hi, Sweetie. I'm 6 1/2 weeks out of BMX and have one scar that looks like what you're describing (the side that had radiation 3 years ago). It feels like there is a bone running through it and is all crinckled and puckered. The other side looks more like what I expected, except that I have a huge "dog ear" that will need to come of. People kept telling me to be patient and that the scars take several weeks or months to settle down. I'm finally beginning to see some softening and thinning of the bad scar although it still has a long way to go (the other side is thinned out enough that I can feel my ribs under it). I'm waiting to get my Tropol Active and am hopeful it will help. My surgeon said he would fix the dog ears in the spring. I don't know what he can do with the radiation damaged skin--may need a PS referral. Hang in there and give it time, and you'll probably see some improvement over the next few weeks.
-
When the scar is raised and cord-like then it is considered a keloid. My PS said that certain races are more prone to keloids and darkening and that it happens due to an overproduction of protein at the wound site. I definitely believe now that early treatment with the best products you can find and possibly massage, which I did not do, makes all the difference. Below is a link with (WARNING) some photos.
-
Sweetie, So today is exactly 4 weeks to the day when I had my exchange and it seems like this 3-4 week really made a difference...the scars look way better. I am sure everyone is different in terms of how much time it takes for their scars to start looking like they are healing...but I can say that for me, the past 5 days really, I have notcied a visable difference and some soreness that I did have in a spot has now disappeared! I remember that when I had my mastectomy surgery, it was around that month mark when I felt that my scars were looking good. I have been sleeping on my stomach lately too and don't have any discomfort from it. Have you been able to sleep in any position? I didn't even ask my ps if that was a good idea or not!
-
I just received my Tropol Active Cream. The directions say that if you have existing scars then the treatment may take 3-6 months. The scars I am concerned about are 15 months old so I consider them existing scars. I am asking the ones who are already seeing results from the cream, are you going by the directions...rub in gently 3 times a day?...
I also received 2 samples of the Face Cream and 2 samples of the Eye Serum.....if this stuff works I will look 20 yrs younger LOL
-
Dear Linda, mine was a little over a year old. I've been applying it after my A.M. shower and then again in the evening. I massage it in till it is gone, gentle massage. My rads scar was, to me, large, the size of a silver dollar and I am noticing softer skin by the edges and slight decrease in size. It does not feel leathery anymore. Hope it works for you too. I too got the samples, I like the eye serum, it is not gooey and seems to plump up the bags under my eye so they are not so visable. I sound like a commercial. Karen
-
loonlover-thanks for the support. I'm going to order to order the tropol-s stuff too. I'll keep you posted.
White dove-ok after seeing those pics now I don't feel so bad! Mine doesn't look anything like any of those, it's just thick inside almost like he double stitched it. I a massaging them with cocoa butter as he advised. I was interested in your previous comment about olive oil. It sounds like a good idea but olive oil usually stains my clothes and I was afraid I would get it on my bras and shirts.
Hurley-good to hear things get better with time. I sleep on my side and want to sleep on my stomach but don't know if I can or not. I probably do it during the night without thinking because I am totally a stomach sleeper. I have no pain or anything so it's not a issue, but I remember the nurse saying something about not sleeping on your stomach for a while. I have my one month next week, many many questions to ask!
-
Linda54, I only put the cream on once a day when I get home from work but I do put quite a bit on. I am using it on my 1 month old scars and on my 6 month old scar although my 6 month old scar had already been healing nicely and fading. I used VitE and cocoa butter on that one last year and I had good luck. It looks like a faint white line and is super flat.
Sweetie, Let me know what your ps says about sleeping on your stomach if you get a chance. I don't see mine for another 5 or 6 weeks! The last time I saw her, she didn't want to see me for another 8 weeks so I have a lot of time until then. I am sleeping on my stomach though and haven't noticed any problems. I slept on my stomach with my old baseballs in too and didn't have any problems.
-
I just finished using one tube of the Tropol Active cream. I don't think there are noticeable results although my scars are not new - they are now six months old actually. I decided to try something different and that seems to be working for me at least. It is Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin E Skin Therapy Oil. Although it is an oil it is not greasy after you rub it in. I think my scars are fading somewhat since I started using this about two weeks ago. It only costs $9.99. I will keep you guys informed. Although the face cream that they sent as a sample seem to work for me on some wrinkles on my forehead.
-
Don23-that's the same stuff my Dr recommends, simple cocoa butter with vit E. I'm using it now. My skin is a lot drier than I realized.
-
Here's a little trick for the fish oil. Put the jar of capsules in the freezer. That way they get a little farther down in your tummy and you aren't as likely to burp that fishy taste. Also, my general doctor recommends krill oil over fish as the best for your heart. (Not to take if you have a shrimp allergy)
-
don23: Great tip about using on wrinkles! Sounds like a good thing to use; I'm going to order some Palmers Cocoa Butter with Vit. E.

Has anyone else noticed that besides scars, your skin has become extremely dry since MX? Is it the decrease in estrogen? I live in Arizona so am already cursed. We jokingly call the old people here "raisins" but I'm starting to feel like one myself. (OMG, does that mean I'm old now?)
