Mets Explosion!

Options

After 8 years NED, started having digestion problems and never thought that this would be a cancer problem.  I really just thought I was having a bacterial issue in the gut but not so lucky. CT scans, bone scan and bone biopsy reveals mets to bones (all over the lower torso), a 6.5 cm mass on the left ovary, omentum caking, and spots on liver.  The colon may be involved as well.  It's like I was walking around for the past 8 years with a time bomb ticking inside and then one day it blew up ALL OVER the place!

Had my first chemo today - Taxol and Avastin.  I've been looking for anyone getting tthis combo, especially the Avastin. The onc.'s financial director went over the bill with me - what insurance pays, what I pay, etc and I couldn't believe the cost of Avastin!  $10,550 for one dose!  The nuelasta injection I'll get at the end of 6 sessions is over $8,000?   Luckily their office is able to secure foundation monies to help patients offset the cost and my per session cost should run about $100.

I just wanted to let you know how very sorry I am about your diagnosis. Please come post on the Stage IV Forum. The women there are wonderfully supportive and we even have fun sometimes!

    rakulynda,

What a horrendous plague of locusts you have been visited by. My heart really goes out to you. I am glad that your onc's office is working with you on the finances - as if that needed to be added to your list of worries.

I hope you get some remission from the treatment.

    Oh Rakulynda,

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. YOu may want to check the Stage IV forum for other people who have been treated with Taxol/Avastin. That Taxol is strong stuff.

    Take care,

    Annie

    Dear Rakulnda,

So sorry you are joining us in the stage 4 world, but hope you'll get lots of support here.  Taxol and Avastin are seriously powerful - and yes expensive - but hopefully will kick some serious cancer butt.  I had a massive recurrence a year ago and Abraxane (cousin of Taxol) plus Avastin was amazingly powerful.  I am living a totally normal life over a year later and there are other gals on these boards who have more incredible stories to share.  I know it is a shock to have such a horrible diagnosis, but we are here for you.
