    Hello Frankie,

I got really sick (in bed for an entire day, fever, sweats and chills) when they did the infusion the first time over 15 mns. My 2nd and 3rd infusions were over 30 mns.

Hi Frankie, I told the nurses that I was told from the women here to run it at 30 minutes and this is what my nurse did.  They just got those new pumps that confused them all on Monday for my appt.  I hope you're doing okay today!  I got bone pains, chills/fever/sweats then fine the next day.

My first one was done over 30 minutes as well.  Not quite sure how long the next one will take.

Well, I was scheduled for the next one the 23rd of July and I'm leaving for Newfoundland that same night.  Hmmmm, I don't want that flu feeling the next day or two so I think I will re-schedule mine for the week before!  I don't want to miss out on any partying at my high school reunion!

Marion- I was in bed for the past 2 days with chills, sweats and body/bone aches. Tylenol was helpful. I am wondering if I ended up with these SE's because the infusion was given 15 minutes apposed to 30 minutes. I guess I'll never know.

Christine- By chance are you treated at the JCC in Hamilton. I was there on Tuesday, and they were so distracted by the new pumps that just got. When I requested that my nurse run the infusion over 30 minutes she said she couldn't because it was ordered by the doc (for 15 minutes) Arghhhhh!!!!

Kim40- Good idea about bumping it before you go away for your high school reunion Wink

Hi Frankie, yes I go to JCC.  You just got the wrong nurse unfortunately, mine figured it out just fine and didn't blink about what was written on the prescription.  My appt was at 1:30 and I didn't get in until 4:30 because of the dang pumps!

Sorry you're feeling crappy, I hope things are better today.  Next time, when you have it in the house you'll be able to emphasize no less than 30 minutes.

Kim, if a high school reunion is at stake, definately bump up, don't take any chances, heheee.

Hello ladies, I had my first Zometa infusion Monday just gone (recently dx with mets to pelvic bone)...and only today do I feel remotely normal again (excluding the pre-zometa pain which is still with me) - flu symptoms, vomiting, panic attacks, the whole nine yards...followed by a day in bed. I was totally freaked out by this until a lovely lady on another area of this forum sent me in this direction.....horrid though it is to find that others suffer these side-effects, I actually have found it reassuring to know that is 'just' side effects. Dont get me wrong, Im not minimizing how horrid SE's are, but I felt so bad I felt lucky to wake up and find that I had 'made it' until the morning! I know that now being more informed, I will feel better about things next time and will go with the flow.

I am in the UK and 15 minutes is the way it goes here...I wonder if it will be worth me asking them slow things down? I will be doing this 3 weekly to start with as the area of mets is quite large. I cant remember now if the topic of calcium came up in this thread or another, but I was given calcium & vit D supplements to take away with me after this infusion. They will be doing blood work inbetween each infusion to monitor calcium levels and kidney function.

Tomorrow I go for my radiotherapy assessment and have 10 doses of that coming up very soon - hopefully that will leave me in better shape to cope with the next dose of zometa...who knows, its all a blooming learning curve isnt it!

Best wishes to all you lovely ladies!

    Sue x
