thickened endometrium

Hi! I have questions and hope I will find some people to help me out. First, a little history. In fall 2008 I was dx with early stage IDC. I had 4 rounds of TC chemotherapy in early 2009. Started tamoxifen in the summer of 2009, but stopped after 5 months d/t many side effects. After a break from hormone therapy for a few months I started on femara mid Feb 2010 and am still taking it. After starting the femara I had a few incidences of blood tinged vaginal mucus. My midwife did a pelvic exam and ordered a vaginal ultrasound. The US results showed a thickened uterine lining so I got a uterine biopsy. I am waiting for results.

So, obviously, I am a bit stressed about the outcome of the biopsy. Has anyone else experienced this? What was done about it?

I know in the past I have gotten lots of support on this forum. So, I will thank you all in advance.

    I just had that done, mine was neg. I think if it was positive they would have gave me an hysterectomy. If it is any consolation, my doctor has said he has never seen uterine cancer from Tamoxifen.

    Hi Cheryl,

    Your story is so similar to mine.  I was diagnosed in 2007, ILC, Stage 1 ER/PR+.  For the last month I've experienced a brown vaginal discharge.  Gyne did the same -- Vaginal Ultrasound.  Results:  thinkened endometrium/3mm size cyst on ovarie.  There was an area that was more thickened so I'm scheduled for  a biopsy/scope - similar to a D/C.  With all of that being said, my Dr. said this is usually caused from Tamoxifin - she wasn't feeling like it was too serious.  I hope this helped.

    Ditto....I am older but had an ultrasound that showed a thickened lining.  Had D and C...all was well.  Had some funny growth thing but was OK and removed.  I used to have a fibroid.  Guess it is gone.

    endometrial thickening is a very common SE of tamoxifen. A yearly TVUS is a good way to monitor it. My Gyn said the main thing they watch out for is any heavy abnormal bleeding.

    I was only on tamoxifen for 5 months. I asked a co-worker who is a PharmD and he said it is very unlikely the thickening is from that med since I took it for such a short time.

    So how "pinchy" was that biopsy?  I know my GYN doc wants to do that yearly on me.  He didn't mention the doing TVUS.  I'm going to ask about that.  Is that uncomfortable to have done?  I appreciate your stories 'cause I'll have an appt. with him in June.

    I can't comment on the thickening, don't know yet how I'm doing.  On Tamox. for 6 mos. now.

    Hi Elimar,  Just had an endometrial biopsy last Thursday.  The procedure was actually ok, minimal amount of discomfort (and very brief).  The discomfort felt like cramps from your period.  My Ob Gyn doc gave me an anesthetic first (a local anesthesia to numb the cervix , also was not painful).  Worry not.  (I worried the week prior to the biopsy all for naught).  The ultrasound was totally pain free, no discomfort what so ever!.  Hope all turns out well for you!

    Cheryl, I had pretty much the same thing as you.  In addition, my original CT-scan at diagnosis of bc showed large ovarian cysts.  The endometrial biopsy and ultrasound showed some fibroids (all benign).  I opted to have uterus and ovaries removed to be on the safe side, cancer-wise.  I've not regretted it.  I could have left everything intact and just stayed hyper-vigilant, but by the time I'd been through three surgeries for BC and chemo, I'd had it with hyper-vigilance and the stress that goes along with it.

     Yes i just recieved my PATH report back and was told i had Simple Hyperplasia without Atypia. I was told to wait 6 months for another biopsy as being my choice of plan. My GYN did mention Hysterectomy in the near future. He said i need to come up with a plan.

    My Dx was in Aug 2009 and i finished chemo in Feb 2010. i had ACT 4 rounds of AC then four rounds of taxol that was 2 weeks apart.

    i am concerned just like u but i don't worry any more about the small stuff. I feel why worry if their may be nothing to worry about. It just make u sick. So i say stay on it but think positive thoughts and do what your Dr suggests. If u feel uncomfortable theres u can always get another opinion.

    I  am going to wait a bit and see if thing change or gets worse and btw i just had a D&C 2 weeks ago with a Hysterscopy. My Endo thickness was a 1.6 CM.
