MRI shows axillary mass
Hi Ladies!!!I was wondering if you could offer me any advice about an issue I'm having. I was dx with Stage 1 BR CA in 1/06 and had a MRM with 3 lymph nodes removed in 3/06. I also had 4 treatments of chemotherapy. I have been followed with mammos and MRIs every year (6 months apart). I just had my annual MRI a week ago and I got a call that it is abnormal and I have to come back for an US and possible biopsy. The MRI shows an axillary mass on my cancer side. My onc says it could be an enlarged lymph node. Does anyoone have any info on this? How sensitive are MRIs? I am really freiking out and very scared about this. I dont feel anything under my arm and I just had a thorough exam done. I do have discomfort in the axilla on this side, which I have really had since node removal. Thanks ladies for any thoughts!

I hope everything will be good.
Don't panic if you can, I know- it is hard.
I will call and ask for MRI, too- my doctor traveling all summer and nurse desided to skipp my MRI.
Please let us know how you're doing.
Good luck.
I wish you the best.

Alison, I am sorry you are having to deal with this stress.
I know MRI's are renowned for false positives. After I was Dx I had one, and they told me not to be surprised if i get a call back for more tests - sure enough I did and had three areas show up on my "good" side - I had U/S and a biopsy, and the areas all turned out to be nothing. So, take heart, it could well be nothing at all.
Let us know how you are doing.

Alison,
I too had an "enlarged node" show up on my mri when diagnosed in 2008. My surgeon ordered a biopsy of the node and it came back negative for tumor cells. I was then able to proceed with my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. The point being that you can have an enlarged lymph node for reasons other than cancer. Good luck with your US and let us know how it goes.
