Is radiation necessary after chemo?

Options

My mom was recently diagnosed and is in the midst of chemo.  She is HER2+ and her tumor was 1.9cm with one node involved.  Originally, she was told she needed radiation, but now the doctor is saying its her choice.  Has anyone seen a study about this?  involving older women who are HER2+?  I also posted this in the HER2+ but since the radiation issue has more to do with her age (70+) I wondered if someone here might know.  Thank you.

Your radiation oncologist should weight the risks VS benefit.

In my case my RO felt my treatment was so aggressive that she didn't feel the need to further stress my body (I'm only 49). Treatment would have been on my left side (heart side).  I was in a gray area so radiation was questionable. My treament included BMX and currenlty 6 rounds of chemo followed by Herceptin full year and Armidex. That's a lot of treatment.

When you are in a gray area you can get both yes and no recommendations. Your oncologist should be explaining the risks VS benefit and the reason why they recommend or don't recommend any treatment.
