I was hoping that the poor dog was merely Photoshopped but I guess not. Frown  One can only hope it was some kind of a spray-on/wash-out vegetable dye!

(A cat would never have put up with it, LOL)

    Suzy,

MLB is one step ahead of you with the pink baseball bats. On Mother's Day all of the teams use pink bats for breast cancer.

At least we're not alone, on Father's Day, they use blue bats.

There are days when I could really use a pink bat.  Thanks, Tweety.  Kiss

Speaking of pink bats (the other kind), I suppose we should be thankful that no brighteyed marketing person has come up with the idea of pink Halloween pumpkins, LOL! or bats, ghosts, witches, etc.

Although I doubt that the notion of a pink-garbed witch would fly.... (ouch! Tongue out Sorry)

Seeing them makes me want to smash them with a pink baseball bat.

I think Pinktober is making me violent.

    I'm with you Suzybelle!

I have an adorable photo on my dresser of my little 3 year old in her pink jacket and me in my pink visor and Tshirt at a Susan Komen Race for the Cure. I've always loved it.  We had a great day, my dh was there cheering us on, my dd loved the excitement.  Well today I am mad. The catfood had pink ribbons on it at the store.  I bought it thinking well guess my cats can support the race.  My daughter is now 23 and there is no f ing cure.  We need to find a high risk doctor to keep an eye on her.

I am going to have to take my camera shopping with me...the things I saw on my trip this weekend were just, well, pink everywhere.  I did buy a new hat - a black one with the pink ribbon - that seemed to fit me.  And the mossy oak pink deer - I am a hunter that is a girl and I liked that it didn't have the 'marketing' attached.

Thankfully, there was no pink football - I feared that one as I would have had to run out on the field and kick it!  It is nice to know that the NFL does really do something for us and is forthcoming about exactly what they do - not much of the 'pink' does that although we do know exactly what pepto-bismol does...I am sure much of the pink goes the same way - down the crapper without the wrapper and doesn't give anything back.

I saw a cat litter container with a pink cap on it. A pink sticker on the container states that they support bc awareness.

Now cats have to deal with all this pink crap when all they want to do is crap in the litter!

Laura, please please PLEASE tell me those pumpkins were Photoshopped... SurprisedSurprised

Scary, yes -- but in an utterly WRONG way, LOL! They look like Paris Hilton Goes To The Pinktober Circus.....   Tongue out

That is a horrible thing to do to an innocent fruit (yes, pumpkins are fruits, as weird as that may seem; just like tomatoes Smile )

lovemygarden - I don't think they were photoshopped. Sorry!

LOL Laura, I actually HAVE one of those pink hammers!  It was a gift I received long before all this pink made me jaded.

I'd love to see some of these research dollars look into all this pink ink.  Wouldn't it be the ultimate irony if pink ink turned out to be carcinogenic!

I just can't decide which thing makes me groan the most.  The concrete truck, the pink pumpkins, or the 'surivor' cake.  I think maybe the cake takes the cake.

I needed fax paper, and someone brought me this!   At least it says they give 20% of the profit from this product to research & awareness.

Oops!  Sorry about the double image.  Not sure why that happened or how to fix it.

I know that all of these companies mean well, but the stuff that they are promoting awareness is hysterical!  I think the cat litter tops it! Foot in mouth

I can and can't believe this thread has been running since September 2008!!

I've been taking pictures all around town and in stores of all the pink stuff.  There's not enough room to post it all!

I forgot I had created this group...

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=319574970373&v=wall

I have it set so that members can upload pictures, if anyone is interested.

How do I add a link instead of a copy and paste for a site?  My link tool is grayed out.

marie, if you highlight the web address with your cursor, the link tool should become active.  You need to highlight it to copy it into the link window anyway.  I tried it -- I pasted your facebook address into this reply and highlighted it, and the link button brightened up.

Why is this thread still active, after more than 2 years?  Because October is still way too pink for most of us; and the marketing world hasn't stopped advertising pink-for-BC stuff for people to buy.:)

I've just finished reading "Pink Ribbon Blues" by Gayle Sulik -- great book! Should be required reading for every person who buys or wears the Pinkified stuff.

Something I never knew before is that Pinktober was originally sponsored by a pharmaceutical company: Zeneca, now known as AstraZeneca of course ("one of the wealthiest members of the breast cancer industry through the development and sale of oncology drugs"), which still is a major sponsor. The author's excellent point:

"The conflict of interest between sponsoring breast cancer awareness programs while profiting from breast cancer diagnosis and treatment and/or contributing to a carginogenic environment is one of the many competing interests that undermine pink ribbon culture."

Yep... the more new bc cases are discovered, the more money all these pharmaceutical companies and diagnostic-machine manufacturers make. The real motto is "Early detection creates customers"!

lovemygarden...something to add to the new motto (love it) "...and finding no cure creates recurrent customers that treat until they die."
