slightly enlarged lymphy node

Hi everyone

I am not new to the boards, but I've been away for a while. Had bilateral in September 2009 for dcis, no lymph node involvment, no invasive component, no tamox. Followup sonogram yesterday revealed a slightly enlarged lymph node (BS called it irritated). She biopsied it to be sure and now I'm playing the waiting game...badly. I think I'm more anxious than I was last year. The breast skin itself revealed nothing on imaging; there are no lumps or bumps. I am trying to stay calm, but could use some kind words or reassurance. Shouldn't pure dcis only come back as a local recurrence, if it does come back? So maybe this lymph node is really just a lymph node and not cancer? Thanks.

I had a similar issue last year-- about a year after my surgeries, on the prohylactic side. The BS didn't want to biopsy it-- said nodes get enlarged for a variety of reasons, but the radiologist said better safe than sorry-- was B9, but in doing the biopsy, the radiologist pinched a nerve- so now I have a very numb bicep-- a whole year later! and the node is still enlarged-- which the surgeon says will probably stay that way-- but I don't care, I was just happy to get a good path report. The waiting is awful-- every time we think we are through with it, there's something to ultrasound or biopsy-- that's just the reality of our lives now, so be glad your BS is proactive and vigilant. Good luck- and please tell us the results.- Julie
