Where are the Skin Sparing Nipple Sparing Procedures Done?

PBM, prophylatic bilateral mx.

I had a nipple sparing mastectomy at Moffitt in Tampa -- breast surgeon was Bradford Carter. He wasn't thrilled about doing it but he did a great job. I feel very lucky to have had this as it is the future and we are on the forefront of a change.
-
Vanderlady, glad to hear your PS did a great job and everything turned out well.
-
vanderlady- So true! It kills me when I see a woman post that she had her nipples removed because her BS (who probably doesn't even do NSM) told her it was too risky to keep them. I feel so lucky as well.

I just had a nipple sparing mastectomy in Greenwood, Indiana. My breast surgeon was S. Chase Lottich at Community Breast Care. I am still healing, but am very pleased so far. My incisions are under my breast next to the rib cage and I don't think the scars will be all that noticeable once permanent implants are in and I am healed. This type of surgery is not possible for many types of breast cancer so I feel very fortunate to have had this as a choice.
-
AnArtist- Thanks for sharing the name and location of your doctor! If you want to connect with others who have had NSM there is another thread if you have any questions or comments. Here is the link-

Hi! I live in the Phoenix area, Gilbert to be exact. I had my NSM done on Aug 18, 2010 at the Mayo Clinics in Scottsdale and Phoenix. Although there are several surgical/oncologist doctors there who perform NSM, mine was Dr. Barbara Pockaj. There are several PS at Mayo, I had Dr Deborah Bash. I had immediate implants placed on TOP of my chest muscles in a bra/sling made from Alloderm. My surgery went well and I am just past my 1 month recovery date.
-
Hi SMH! I live in Mesa. I wish I could have gone to Mayo for my NSM but they were out of network for me so I went to Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson. Thanks for sharing the names of your doctors!
-
Anybody had NSM in Eugene, OR area?
-
Dr. Stolier- New Orleans
He will take the time to answer any questions or concerns you have without making you feel rushed.
-
I wish there was a way on this site which we could post a U.S. map and "pin" the cities where we've all had our NSMs. Glad to see the list getting longer!
-
I am having a double masectomy NSM and DIEP done at the Mayo in Phoenix by Dr Wasif (surgeon/oncologist) and Dr Rebecca (plastic surgeon) on Oct 13.
Dr Rebecca will either use my tummy fat or my inner thigh fat. Tummy would be best but because of a hernia repair I had 12 years ago she doesnt know if she can do it there. We will find out when I have my CT scan done on Monday to check out the blood flow to that area where the hernia was repaired with mesh.
-
nora_az- Just wanted to say hi! I live in AZ, too (Mesa). I have heard wonderful things about the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix for NSM. Just wanted to wish you good luck with your surgery. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Also, have you checked out the other thread for those of us who have had NSM? Here's the link-

I had a NSM (unilateral) with immediate recon performed at Mayo in Phoenix with Dr. Barbara Pockaj (BS) and Dr. Deborah Bash (PS). I had Alloderm with implant on the R and implant on the L. I am three months post op and I am very happy with the results. I healed well and I feel wonderful.

I saw the posting for Glenview, IL, above. Any others in the Chicago/suburban Chicago area? Thx!

I am from Washington State and having a heck of a time finding doctors that do nipple / skin sparring surgery, with use of natural tissue from body.
Thank You,
Laurie
-
lciscarroll, I see you are early stage and most likely a good candidate for the NSM. What do you mean by use with natural tissue from body?
-
Hi Laurie, All of us over at the NSM site have had the immediate reconstruction or the expanders thus effecting the muscle. I read your profile of early stage and can see where you are a candidate for the NSM. I also got from your profile a self description of being a runner and yoga. I agree with your search for finding someone who will use your own tissue, thats if you have enough fat stored to use, as with the immediate reconstruction the muscle is effected and for me its taking a long time to get back to the positions of yoga bearing wt on the chest without the pain and I find that frustrating. I am following along with you. Hopefully someone will send you a reference in this area.

I had NSM Bel Air, Maryland at Upper Chesepeake Health October 13, 2010. Dr. Frederick Walker - BS and Dr. Brent Birely - PS. Dressing was taken off today...nipple is looking good!
-
Does anyone know of a BS/PS in NJ that would do this? I would love to hear from you. I meet with the PS this coming Friday and this has not been discussed at all.
-
anitasmom, what part of NJ? We have several above who had theirs performed in NYC.
-
I had mine done in Grand Rapids, MI, by Dr. Colleen App (BS) & Dr. Andrew Livingston (PS). 18 months later everything looks great. I had no problems with the nipples healing after. Still getting used to the numbness from the tummy tuck line to the breasts. I hadn't put much thought into that part of the procedure.
I am currenly at home recovering from a full hysterectomy for endometrial cancer (Stage I), so the numbness actually has helped me in that I can't feel the 5 laparoscopic incisions.
-
Deb_62- Thank you for sharing your resources. I'm originally from Grand Rapids! (Well, Wyoming, actually!)

Doing pbmx with diep in December. My PS in Milwaukee does do NS for some but says he feels I am too large (38D) and the distance for blood supply will cause me to end up with necrosis of the nipple. I like my PS and trust him, I am just disappointed =(
-
Zogo - sorry to hear that you are so disappointed. I had heard about size being a major factor. BTW, What did your BS say?

Posting this anyone looking for NSM in OHIO.
At the Samaritan Breast Center at Samaritan North in Englewood, surgeons have begun performing nipple-sparing mastectomies on women at high risk of developing breast cancer and on select patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Perhaps a third of women diagnosed with the disease are candidates.

Also just posted bunch of NSM links on this BCO NSM thread.

Hi Whitedove,
Thanks for the reply. BS Dr Alonzo Walker, originally mentioned it, but he deferred to the expertise of the PS. Dr. John Hijjawi. If I were smaller, there is no doubt they would have done it. So, if anyone is looking for a good team in Milwaukee...these are the surgeons.

I recently had a double nipple sparing mastectomy with alloderm in Grand Rapids, Michigan at Lacks Cancer Center. My BS was Dr.Jamie Caughran and my PS was Dr. Ford. I could not be happier. Just a 2 in scar on the left side of each nipple which is now just a light pink color. Nipples look just as they did before the procedure, and they still perk! I still have the expanders in place.
