2 Years of TAMOXIFEN - I am Finished!
I found my BC when my son was 2 mths old just days after my 34th Birthday. I had a large tumor in my right breast and 2 positive Lymph Nodes. I asked the Dr. to take both so I didn't have to worry about it.
I had my chemo in 2007. Started on Tamoxifen which riped me of sanity basically. The bedroom scene with hubby had been a challenge due to the evil Tamoxifen. Our electric bill went up (A/C on high) and I had to dress my son warm during all of the hot flashes. Once in 2008 and once in 2009 I had a rusty discharge down there for a few days. The Gyno said I was fine & I had a normal hormonal cyst. The cyst went away with no probs...I thought this may be a good thing...my body is trying to work down there.
I stopped taking my Tamoxifen just over 2 yrs this past April 2010. Over the summer I actually had a pimple on my face and was very happy (hormones!). The 1st week of Sept 2010 my hot flashes had dissappeared and I felt my ovaries ovulating! I was slightly unsure but then 2 weeks later I started getting a small amount of discharge which turned into a red, quicker flowing discharge...my period is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next month Hubby and I will try for another child!!

Oh I forgot to mention that I was suspose to be on Tamoxifen for 5 years but told the doctor that I wanted to eat cancer fighting foods instead. He said that I had benifited from what I had taken and new studies show that 5 years doesn't make much diff....gosh, why didn't he tell me that before all the worry I had about telling him and wondering what he was going to say, lol. Oh and by the way, I remember being sad 3 weeks ago reading all of the posts about periods coming back because I wasn't sure if mine was although it gave me hope and so I hope that others will also be inspired:-)

CONGRATULATIONS! That is so encouraging. I was diagnosed 3 months ago, had surgery 2 weeks later and had my first chemo (ACTH) 10/4. My diagnosis came 2 months before my wedding which was heart breaking because we were planning on children immediately (I am 37 and he is 42). I was able to preserve 3 embryos and I opted to wait until after my wedding and honeymoon to start treatment. I've been sad thinking that I may lose ovarian function but your story made my day. Also, the 2 years of tamoxifen was my thought but my doctor, who is very conservative, suggested a surrogate. I will look further into studies about 2 years vs 5 years. Good luck and I know you will be blessed with another child.

Scarlettohara, congrats to you on the periods returning. I'm curious about those studies your doctor mentioned saying that 5 years is not really that important. I'm not trying for any more babies, but I just want a break from this 5 year sentence, and have also thought about just relying on my healthy habits to keep me from reoccurrence. I'm going on 2 years now, and will at least take a break for awhile to see what life is like without tamoxifen.
