Fund Raising Anyone?

Are any of you into fund raising at all? I know of at least one of you who have people out there raising funds. Is it realistic for a person with cancer to go out there and raise funds on their own? I was thinking it wouldn't look good if I asked for it myself.

I am not at that point yet, and hope I don't, where I might need anything more than surgery. But yes, all the tests and co-pays all add up. So do the costs of preparing for surgery like being sure you have tops that are NOT pull overs.

So what do you think? Any ideas?

    I'm at that point where I'm going to have to raise funds to pay for part of my upcoming surgery in February.  I have no idea what I'll do though. I could use some help!

    Why are you waiting so long for your surgery?

    What if you put something up for auction on ebay, something that will grab one's attention like a bra (??), and said what the money was for. And what if you emailed and called the news networks about it to get attention? It's breast cancer awareness month so maybe that will help. Hoping for the best for you! I know how financially painful cancer can be. It's bad enough getting the dx.

    I'll tell you what my friends did for me, they had a casino night. First they had several big garage sales, so they could have money for the venue and to rent the casino tables. They then got donations for prizes from local business and anyone the knew  that worked for a company that would donate. They also got donations for food and coffee for that night. A friend DJ music. Other people help run the games. With the winnings people got from the casino they were able to get raffle tickets for the donated prizes. They contacted every one they knew from work people too relatives and we had a large turn out, and everyone had fun. They were able to raise  enough money to help me get through the tough times. And I will be ever grateful to them. It was amazing how very generous people were, that didn't even know me.
