Very sore tailbone, is it the Tamoxifen?

Options

I was on Aromasin, but after 11 months stopped due to side-effects.  I have been on Tamoxifen since April.  In August I found out I was an intermediate metabolizer and now I am taking it twice a day.  Over the last month  my tailbone has gotten so sore it's uncomfortable to sit.  I saw the oncologist today and she said maybe it's the Tamoxifen.  Has any else had a very sore tailbone from Tamoxifen.  I also have shoulder pain and stiffness, which we think is due to muscle fibrosis from radiation.  To make my oncologist happy I am having a bone scan next week to make sure there's not another problem with my shoulder.  I assume my tailbone will also be part of the scan.

Would love to hear from anyone with sore tailbones.

Thanks

Cathy

    Hi Cathy,

I've been on Femara, an AI, for 20 months.  Side effects are sore muscles, joints and bone pain.  A few days my tail bone became painful.  It doesn't hurt to sit, but hurts to stand up after sitting.  When I press on it, it hurts.  I'm going to assume this is also from the Femara, because a month ago I had a clear PET/CT scan.  No evidence of disease.  It scared me, nevertheless.  But, I've noticed that with the hormonals, the discomfort seems to shift from one area to another.  So, that's probably what's happening.  Don't worry too much, but it makes sense to get it checked.

Yes I experienced this SE, I had to keep doing Yoga and sit very little to help.

I have been having this issue as well.  I will probably get it checked soon.  Mine sort of feels like premenstrual cramps.  This is very nerve wracking to me.

These posts are nearly 6 years old, but I had referenced them when I was having tailbone issues. I had been on tamoxifen 4 years when my tailbone became very sensitive. For more than a year I've been sitting on donuts, concocting seat bases for my car, lying down to watch tv rather than sitting in a chair and working at a stand up desk (which is actually a positive outcome). Seven days ago, I quit taking Tamoxifen (April 15th was five years since diagnosis for me), and I woke up this morning to realize my tailbone no longer hurts...at all. I feel like a new person. Now I would suffer a sore tailbone, as it is a small price to pay if the tamoxifen is keeping any recurrence of cancer at bay, but what a relief, at least for me, to have pretty definitive proof that it was tamoxifen that was keeping my tailbone inflamed, not something more sinister.

    AJohanson-

That's great news that you were able to pinpoint the cause of your tailbone issues!
