im not speakin to you girls.def.not.im sick of all the $$$$$ these people are makin off this pink stuff.again im rantin and ravin about the people who have no insurance with bc and dont have $$$$ to get treatment, proper care, transportation etc.I sure hope i did not offend anyone.that was not my intention at all.

I found this on a bag of pretzels. Will donate 1,0000,000 of our proceeds.
1. Learn how to administer a breast self exam
2. spread the word about the benefits of early detection
3. Enjoy a sensible satisfying snack, are they kidding? Why would anyone not believe companies are making a big profit of Pinktober?
-
LOL, grannydukes! Short and to the point!
And otter, your doll description is priceless -- I loved it!
I sure hope I don't see any of those pink cans anywhere around my neighborhood, or I'll have to ask my son if I can borrow his paintball gun for some Midnight Target Practice.... hehehehe
Re: the pretzels, here comes the nitpicker in me again. "Administer" an exam?? Helloooo there pretzel marketing person, the word "administer" means to give or do something to or for someone else; the word you want is "perform". Unless you are advocating something that should be on pay-tv instead of a pretzel bag, LOL.
Which makes me wonder where the instructions are for same. Discreetly inside the bag, one would hope. Can't have the kiddies running down the supermarket aisle asking mommie what the lady in the pictures on the pretzel bag is doing to her boobies, now can we?
-
grannydukes, nobody was offended. I'm sure of that, because I have the most sensitive "offense" threshold of anyone and mine didn't go off. (I can usually suppress it anyway, but it's like the buzzing of a cell phone set to "etiquette" mode. Can't be heard, but hard to ignore.)
On the contrary, I was concerned that you might have been offended by all the sniping we're doing here. I am really having a good time with all this. The posts and their pics make me laugh (even while nauseous). They help neutralize the disgust I feel toward the pink-washing, as well as my irritation from ill-thought-out and pointless attempts to "raise awareness."
I should have known better. You are on the same page as we are with this stuff; and your comment was perfect.

A pink concrete mixer? Now that is just too, too over-the-top!
-
Ohhhh - this thread is just a pleasure to read. Thanks for all the laughs, everyone!
-
I think that's what happened to me. I didn't get breast cancer, I got run over by a pink concrete mixer.
-
Bank of America "Pink Ribbon Banking" You get a new checking account and a new credit card and they donate $0 to breast cancer research. You do get to raise awareness and "be an ambassador and an example for others to follow."
The checks and credit cards have pink ribbons on them.
-
An example for others to follow? Follow the example of giving $0? Otter you said it perfect. Had to put my coffee cup down this morning DH and I laughed so hard at the pink garbage cans and cement mixer. I needed it this morning, I was on my feet a lot yesterday and the leftover neuropathy from the lovely chemo is killing me this morning. If I wasn't laughing I'd be crying, this is much better

Here's a link provided by one of our BC sisters at another website. Okay, she posted it on her FB page. Anyway, the link goes to a website called, "Cake Wrecks."
http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/2010/10/yay-for-tatas.html
It's always hilarious, but this week it is especially good, 'cause they're all pink-for-BC cake wrecks. As an example, I present:
Note that some of the cakes pictured on the "Cake Wrecks" site are re-runs from earlier years, so they might even have appeared on previous pages of this thread.

[Edited to add: But, of course, rock already posted that very picture of a cake wreck back in October 2008, when this thread was started.]

Otter,
I have discovered my special purpose. I'm not a survivor, I'm a 'surivor'.
Thank you so much!
-
WalMart's cash register lights (the ones above that tell you the register is open) are pink. I couldn't figure out what that was about when I first saw them. At least it wasn't selling something, just turning something pink.
Exploitation of this disease to profit is below low.

Yeah, grannydukes, enuf of this!
(dbl post, deleted one)

PS Those cakes had me laughing out loud -- really! Thanks! I'm sharing the link on my FB page!
And Suzybelle, I love your humor. Thanks for all the smiles!
-
Well, some clarity at last! The Toronto Star had a page of products (pink ones, I mean) and beside each was the cost and the AMOUNT of money donated to a named charity for each sale.
Enough of this "a portion of the proceeds" guff!
But, even if I needed to buy a new KitchenAid blender, no way would I buy a pink one -- that's just a daily reminder sitting on my kitchen counter...ugh!
-
At Sam's Club on Sat..bag of Purina cat food that said there were donating $300,000 to Susan G. Komen, but no purchase was necessary...not one penny of their pink-ribbon adorned purchase went directly to the cause.
-
Women, you inspire. And you're hysterically funny, to boot.
(Thanks, Otter and everyone for keeping the thread going!)
-
its oct 18th.ITS ALMOST OVER.
-
GrannyD, you are fast becoming my fave poster. You're pithy, tough, and like to cuss.
I really like that.
-
thank you suzybelle.i do appreciate it.the cussy part got me in trouble on another thread.some people get offended by my language.i told them to put the soap in my mouth....so.....i have to be careful...for an old lady i do have a dirty mouth.wish i could blame the bc on that one.BC STILL SUKS.God bless all of you.K

Pink Ribbon playing cards...
-
OMG, a walker.
-
Lifegoeson, I snorted all over my computer when I saw that walker.
Thank you!!!!
-
That walker sure is something
-
DH came home from the grocery yesterday with a buy one get one free of breast cancer pink Mueller's spaghetti. They're in the pantry so I don't have to look at them.
-
-
All of this stuff is great! Pink and October makes me want to burry my head until November 1st. I was out grocery shopping on Friday, and noticed all of the "junk food" had the pink ribbon on it, Pepperidge Farm Mint Milano cookies, Hamburger Helper, and to top it off, the bags of Sun Chips are all in pink! I'll have to remember to take a picture of them when I go shopping this week.
Thanks for making October a little more funny!
-
Yes, if you go shopping, be sure to take your camera!
I can handle the pink poodle, I think. Some poodle owners do really crazy things to decorate their dogs, as if they're putting new wallpaper in the dining room or color-coordinated hand towels in the bath. So, this owner color-coordinated her dog for BC awareness, I guess... (No that's not okay. I'm just trying to be open-minded.)
But, who would buy a pink-for-BC walker???
BTW, usually when I find pink stuff in the grocery store, I'll rummage around on the shelf until I find some of the non-pink version (the cans or packages stuck way behind the pink ones). I will even buy a brand I don't usually buy, if my favorite brand is available only in pink.
My dh brought home a pink can of chicken noodle soup once, but only so I could take a picture of it and post it in this thread. All the other cans he bought were the standard color.

Pink poodles are just plain WRONG.
