So I swore that once my hair started growing back I would never complain again about a bad hair day or wayward facial hair...I lied!! My last chemo was Aug. 11, 4 DD AC and 12 weekly Taxol, the hair on my head started to sprout about half way through my taxol but my eyebrows and lashes were non existent FINALLY in the past three weeks they have begun to grow again
My eyelashes are thick and stick straight, nothing a little mascara and eyelash curler can't fix. As for my brows, well they are a little slower in coming but are starting to fill in nicely...Now I have noticed that I have a ton of facial hair, downy fine nasty stuff. I know this is common but ewwww. Any suggestions on what to do about it?? I am so excited that my lashes and brows are back but I know that there is a good chance that they will fall out again in a few months, so I was wondering if anyone out there didn't lose them a second time. I hate feeling like someone erased my face!! As for my melon, my hair is growing fast, I have a 1/2" of dark hair all over my head...love it but I sure wish it would grow a little faster
Thanks for you input ladies!!
xoxo, Angi
Oh and does anyone else have "bumpy" skin?? I have it all over my body, I think it is also from my hair follicles but wow it's gross!!

I finished my Taxol in Dec 09. I really didn't notice my head hair regrowth until March 2010. I did notice all that fuzz on my face. I kind of assumed it was what I had on my face before all the chemo, just more noticeable because there was no head hair. But now that peach fuzz is gone, so it was a real phenomenom. I did not shave it, as I see some women have. Fortunately for me I'm blond, and it did disappear on its own.
I think I remember reading Herceptin slows hair growth, which could explain why it took from December to May to even think about getting my still short overgrown crew-cut hair trimmed to even out. I finished Herceptin in August. I'm ready for a trim again. One positive note is I like my hair short! I would never have tried it this short pre-cancer, but short does look good with my face shape. Who'da thunk it?
Now that you mention it, I do remember bumpy skin on the more tender parts of my body - back of arms, trunk. It must have been the hair getting re-started, because the bumps are gone now.

Angi, I didn't lose my lashes or eybrows a second time. I was VERY glad about that since it was the hardest part of the hair loss for me. I'm an Orthodox Jew so for religious reasons I've been covering my hair since I got married so no one knew about the hair loss unless I told them. But the eyebrows! The eyelashes! I am vain about my face and it was awful. The funny thing was, a lot of people have told me afterwards they didn't realize I'd lost my eyebrows & lashes, they never noticed. so even though, like you, I hated feeling like I was "erased", it might not be as noticable as we think.
I had the peachfuzz which eventually went away - didn't notice when. For me it was white/blond so not so noticable.
Best of luck.

I'm 4 months post-Taxol but still on Herceptin. My hair is still (IMO) way too short for me to go without a scarf yet. Maybe an inch long at most (and that may be a bit of wishful thinking!). Still too short to be able to tell whether it is (a) straight (b) wavy (c) chemo curls or (d) some weird combination of the above. I look every day and try to figure that out. Several times a day, actually. Okay, many! (a watched hairshaft never grows??)
It seems to be growing soooooooo slllllooooooooowwwwwwllllllyyyyyy! And it is 50/50 white + black which in Hair Math = steel grey visually. I cannot say that I'm a big fan of that. But I do try to keep repeating my new mantras which are "At least it's HAIR", "Any hair is better than no hair", and "Whether I end up loving it or hating it, in a year or two it will have reverted to what it was before."
I was lucky with the brows and lashes. Lost all the lashes the last week of Taxol and they all grew back again all at once 10 days later. Within 3 weeks they were back to what they used to be. My brows only got about 50% thinner. They were back to about 75% within 2 months which is fine because I always thought they were too 'heavy' before -- so I like the lighter look better anyhow.
