Baseline Mamo at age 40, nothing of concern
Age 41 - Stage IIb - Found 4 cm lump myself, will not trust a mamo alone anymore, always get ultrasound done with followups! Recently celebrated 5 years of NED and hope to remain that way.July 2010 - Youngest Sister Diagnosed at age 43 - genetic testing to be done...this is too freaky to not be genetic...No other family history of BC except for my sister and myself....
-
Age 49
Mammos since 35 normal mammo 8 months earlier. Self exam monthly since 35 and found it.
Mother age 59 survivor and sister age 33 (15 yr survivor)
BRCA negative, I had to do testing since 3 of us had it. Couldn't take the chance that this was passed on to my precious daughter.

DX at 29 with stage 4
-
39 at my diagnosis. Went to the ER with excruciating lower back pain. Tests quickly revealed mets on several vertebra and a rib.
A humble suggestion:
What about conducting a poll about motherhood status? How many of us Stage IVs have had children? And how many of us haven't? -
I was 39 the first dx
I'm 43 now and I was dx 11 months ago with bone mets

Wow. I'm staggered at how many younger women are facing this horrible disease. I was Stage 4 from the start, 45 years old. "A little young for breast cancer, aren't ya?" a medical tech blabbered at me as he wheeled me into surgery. Clearly the answer is no.

42 when diagnosed with IDC. Not even 43 when diagnosed with DCIS. Had them all removed two weeks before my 43rd b-day.
I'd had my first baseline mammo when I was 40 1/2. then skipped it the next year, and then I found the lump. I can't tell you how many times I kicked myself for not going in for that second yearly mammo..Though they say it might not of shown anything. Apparently this was a sneaky fast-growing cancer.
And too I am shocked at all the young women here with breast cancer. I think when they do ads for awareness, they need to acknowledge the fact that it's not all middle aged grandmothers getting this disease - it's young moms with babies, young women who haven't even had a chance to be pregnant yet. Ugh.
